Newbie looking for encouragement

I am 48 hours from my last cigarette after quitting cold turkey. My major reason for quitting was GERD/Gastritis. Has anyone else with these issues seen improvement after quitting? I have removed all other irritants from my diet and could really use some encouragement. Because of my stomach, I can not use any quit aids.

Welcome and well done for joining the group. Yes I've had problems with my stomach. IBS. I was too embarrassed to tell the Doctor I smoked when he pointed out that cigarettes could cause problems. So I let him believe I was smoke free and we looked at other irritants and diet related issues instead.

I've had a lot of relief since I quit. I'm now in my second month. Unfortunately I must be honest and say here that I'm eating a bit too much at the moment to compensate for the loss of cigarette but I decided to address one issue at a time. So over eating doesn't help with IBS either.....

Lots of people on this forum have gone cold turkey and have had fantastic success. In fact most will say it's the only way. I have a 0 nicotine eCig which to me is like sucking on a piece of plastic really and nothing like a cigarette but I use it when I'm desperate just because of the habit.

Mainly I have relied on this group to get me through and it seems to have worked. Everyone is in the same boat and there's so much to read and encourage you along the way. Any time you have a problem there are so many people to come to your rescue.

On bad days I've spent a lot of time just reading people's posts. It helps. I've been trying to quit for over a year and this is my biggest success so far.

So well done on your decision and hope,to see lots of posts from you.

Hi Maggie :)

No experience with IBS here, but stopping smoking helped in lots and lots of other ways! I too went cold turkey, just over nine months ago, and yes it's tough, but it's not impossible :) As Becky says, this forum is massively helpful as a place to vent your feelings, seek advice and be inspired :)

Good luck! x

Maggie... A very warm welcome to this lovely group. Yup all of us have had our reasons to quit...Wish I could help with your special reason to quit but you definitely took the first step in the right direction. Knowledge is power and learn as much as possible on your unique situation which I am sure you have done.

Stay strong on your journey and keep us informed....:)

It is 6:00 PM and my 72 hours will be complete tomorrow at 9:00AM. Biggest issue is afternoon fatigue, insomnia, dizziness, and on and off nausea. The cravings have not been too bad. What will the next few days bring? Do symptoms continue to stick around?

Maggie....After 72 hours all the nicotine is out of your system...Al the carbon Monoxide is out and the healing began immediately like in 10 min after your last cigarette. The symptoms come and go for the first few days.... Some might stick around.... Fatigue was one of my baddies and still not 100% where I want to be.....

There is no shame in supplementing some Vitamins ....Vit C and B is now very important to help your body recover quicker and fight whatever the nicodemon might cast at you....

There is more herbal stuff which really helped me a lot......

The Physical cravings might be bearable but be prepared for the Physiological onslaught...It is fierce.....

But stay strong and calm and you will win this one ....!
