Smoking dreams....

nsd_user663_63893 profile image

Seem to be having a better week this week on the smoking front. I'm not thinking about smoking ALL the time and haven't had to sell a vital organ to pay my snack bill (!). But had one of those pesky smoking dreams last night, but this time that Nick O'Tine was really sneaky. I dreamt that I was one of those people who can just have a smoke every now and again! Shocking! I really thought i could!! Right before I woke up I realised what I had done and how I was on the slippery slope. It was quite disturbing.

Its so strange how unsettling these smoking dreams can be. Anyone else had any good smoking dreams??

The others I have had were not too bad just smoking as part of the dream and then waking up thinking 'oh no, I've started smoking again!!' Followed by relief when you realise it was a dream - a bit like when you realise it is Saturday and you don't have to go to work! Bit of a rite of passage really :)

Yes I did, was quite alarming , I only had one, but shockingly it was so vivid.

I will keep my fingers and toes crossed you have a more peaceful night to night

Doing fantastic.

Keep posting😄

Yes! I had lots - usually mine were very surreal though, so it was easy to tell they weren't real and not to panic!

You're doing SO well Hattie my friend x

when i used the patches to quit i dreamt i was getting chased by a giant cigarette !

Eeek! The dreams you get on those patches are fierce aren't they?!

I have had a few smoking dreams during the last week - it's our brain (sub conscious) coming to terms with the quit - it's a good thing and shows we are getting there :) You are doing amazingly well :)

Hattie, I blame this thread for the smoking dream I had last night! I was a film star (of course!), and rushing from the studio set to film on location, and it was snowing, and walking along the gorgeous snowy white road I chain smoked about 15 fags because 'no one would know in the cold and the snow' ?!?!

Incy! What a fab dream. Are you sure it wasn't true ;)

Darn it, I haven't had any smoking dreams:confused:... not sure what that says for my sub-conscious and all – but somehow I feel a bit cheated because I love dreams of any kind:)

well except maybe falling to my death or the likes:eek:

I had one again last night and could remember it well this morning but it's almost all gone now..... what I do remember is that I was smoking away and thinking nothing of it until the "other me" jumped into my head freaking out, reminding me that we don't smoke anymore. The funny thing was, after the initial flash of guilt and disappointment in myself, I carried on smoking and until that moment of realisation, there had been no taste or smell or anything but afterwards... omg, it was so vivid and soooo good (did I just type that out loud?) Uhmm, I mean it was terrible, awful, filthy thing......

There are some people who can have a smoke now and then at parties or only when they drink etc, sadly I'm not one of them but I'm really secretly hoping I can be an occasional dream smoker :)

Oh man, the smoking dreams are the worst! This addiction is so strong it even attacks our subconcious.

I had one where i would walk around and everything i touched would turn to cigarettes. Trees became cigars, water became rolling tobacco, sand became snuff. It was verging on a nightmare tbh - very unsettling.

Hi Ananke......no nooo, do not wish yourself to be a dream smoker...im wondering if you are around the 6 - 8 weeks off the fags???..around 6 weeks our nicotinic receptors have just about reduced back down to the levels of those of a non smoker..(yes non smokers have same receptors)...we have very little dopamine around at this time so we are vulnerable to trickery...the brain is trying to get you t release dopamine to make you feel good.....the chances are if you do feel good in the dreams you are probably releasing more dopamine..your happy chemical...if you have a connection where thinking of smoking makes you happy then it will be a struggle as it may become more and more frequent...try to change your mind set to hating the dreams...be disgusted..forbid them from giving you any pleasure or they will push their way to reality....they will go away if you shun them..or stop them with an alarm clock set earlier so you dont remember your dream...

I know it sounds silly, but you describe the dreams just like i have them at around 6 -8 weeks and they can last for weeks just bloody haunting me...so this time i was prepared and stopped the dreams in their tracks with herbal meds and mind play...had even booked hypnotherapy for week 8, but didnt need it as i banished the dreams...

Let us know how it goes...its a fascinating subject....:)

Hello Ananke!!! I personally think your idea of being an occasional dream smoker is so awesome:p Weird? Yes!!! but totally acceptable in my mind:eek:

I actually just had my first smoking dream a few nights ago and it was great:) And I'm totally good with it. When I woke up, it was all over – no harm done, no guilt and no real life urges. Seriously, If I was concerned with dreams becoming a reality, I should be really scared - because I've had some wacky dreams that would knock the socks of most therapists!! and based on some of my latter ones, I 'm sure I was some probably cause of the Blake Shelton , Miranda Lambert divorce:p oh yeah baby!!

But seriously - way to go my friend - so proud of you!!! Stay strong, keep in touch and don't forget, we are walking into the penthouse together!! (just remember- although acceptable the first few months of our quit, grandma pants will not be allowed in the penthouse !!!) ;)

Thanks Melli, I haven't had a smoking dream since that one.

Que, I'm much the same, I think they'd be coming with the white coats if I told my dreams, some things are best left alone ;).

I'm so proud of you too Que and so very glad we're doing this journey together. I will most definitely be wriggling into my skinny jeans for the penthouse :)

So True Ananke, dreams are sometimes best left alone:o, but then again - I do believe in Peter Pan, skinny jeans and a damn good time!! and sometimes dreams are just a nice way to indulge!!

so nasty these dreams, i only had one but it felt so real to me, and so vivid in colour.

great you starting to understand and indeed realise, those thoughts of smoking do suside.

doing great
