Last day of smoking

nsd_user663_63822 profile image

Today is my last day as a smoker - well that s the plan. 4 cigs left to "enjoy"/get through and a few last pages of Allen Carr s book. Just hoping I ll wake up tomorrow in the sane positive mindset that I have today - today I can smoke though. Feeling 😀 about it all at the moment.

Why not do now. Go for it !!!!!! Xx

Meant to say before random pressing post button I just dumped them. Thought why prolong the anticipation/agony/scary thoughts. ?? Good luck

Oooh well done Secretsmoker - there's tons of support here and I wish I'd arrived on or before my quit-day like you!

I read Mr Carr, too, then quit cold-nutloaf. He's really helpful, that fella, but be prepared, it will be hard. Carr is right, you can enjoy quitting from day one, but there will be moments that don't feel enjoyable too :)

We can do this!

Good luck x

Good luck Secret smoker, the 1st couple of days will be hard, but post on here or just come on here the support is amazing, change your routine, I've found going for walks helps, instead of sitting round house, wash all your clothes, hair, pjs everything so you smell nice lol, you can do this xx

Thanks guys. Last yr I managed 6 wks no smoking - by luck really - after being stuck in bed with with the most awful cold/cough etc hence after a few days no smoke I figured I d go on each day and see how it would go. However at the back of my mind was a constant "never say never - I will smoke again - just not now". After My first night out with a smoking friend I was back hooked after a wk. This time I m determined to have the NOPE approach - I have to - and I have this support via the forum which I didn t have before. Not long now... Ps I know I should maybe just do it NOW but the plan is that mother s day will be THE day and the best treat I or my kids could ever have. Thanks again for your comments. Xx

That was not luck ...was meant to be LOL That's what happened with me this time, I was so sick that couldn't even breathe nevermind smoke...

I wish you very best of luck for tomorrow and will follow your posts :)

You can do it!!!! Xx

Go for it choose freedom

Just say to yourself every morning - 'Today I choose not to smoke'. That way it doesn't become any big deal about the future, just taking one day at a time.

So my dear ex-secret smoker, how is it going so far ?

How's your first day going SS? X

Hi guys. So far so good. Woke up hugely positive after putting out last smoke last night whilst reading last page of mr Carr s book(past midnight though - dragged it out!!). Have had a busy day with no opportunity to smoke yet which occasionally happens on weekends - being a s smoker - for me it s all about getting the "opportunity" to smoke ie no kids/family around (not hubby -he smokes) which really is rather sad as I got to look forward to those times when really it should be the other way around. Sorry I tend to wander ... Anyway ... The next few hours will be the tricky times for me as kids in bed - usual routine is straight outside for sm, watch a bit of tv then back outside for one or 2 more. Have run the biggest bubble bath as a distraction for the next half hr. May have a glass of vino to help - last wk I stopped my nightly glass or 2 of vino too all in preparation for today - that s gone surprisingly well. So - here goes

Ps really grateful to see your messages of encouragement and general interest. Put a smile on my face. Thanks guys. Xx

Great! So...one down, two to come, here's to the next one :) looking forward to read ur post 2moro :) Keep it up, my friend!

Excellent that you made yourself a plan - bubble bath's a great idea coz you'll smell all lovely afterwards.

I too was a 'secret' smoker, at least as far as my daughter was concerned. Not that she didn't know, just that I wouldn't do it when she was around. It's a terrible feeling when you're itching for them to go to bed or whatever just so that you can smoke isn't it? I don't miss that one little bit :)

Well done on being nearly through day one - when you wake up tomorrow you'll be so pleased with yourself, and quite rightly so!

Hello SS

I can relate to what you are saying here. I am not secret as such but I did tend to avoid smoking near my son and in situations I thought it was frowned on. Result is always looking forward to being on my own in garden smoking in the evening. Sad really to be trying to get away from the people you want to be with to smoke. Don't miss that it's no treat just addiction! and your post helped remind me. Everyone here will be right behind you. 😃

Here we go ... 1 st "proper day" of no smoking. Normal routine usual triggers and opportunities to sm. so far so good - no "post school run smoke b4 work". Had some mouthwash instead !! Keep wondering how tough it ll be when I get home and have that hour to myself where I d usually sit, sm, get up to date on fb/twitter - basically waste my time smoking til kids get home. Anyway ... Today s mantra is NOPE which I think was my downfall last time. I am somewhat obsessing about smoking/not smoking - plus my head feels a bit "fuzzy"??!!

Congratulations on getting towards the end of day 2. Deep breaths through the nose, as if you're inhaling really does help. Focus on the breath rather than on smoking/no smoking. It can be a challenge but I use with some degree of success.

Thanks guys - am breathing in through the nose when I get those smoking thoughts. Have games on my phone - but I tend to flick through those when smoking - !!!! Nevermind - this site is helping greatly - normally I d be outside having a sm - instead I m on the sofa - after a short walk with the dog (instead of letting him run wild in the garden) - flicking through your comments. So far - so good and still have the mantra NOPE. Xx

Glad to hear it's going well SS, enjoy your bath that is literally my favourite past time especially if I have a glass of wine and a good book ;)

Getting towards the end of day 2 and if I stick to the same routine and feel this upbeat, positive, relieved then all will be wonderful - plus I shall be exhausted as I am keeping myself rediculously busy (extra dog walls and m&s with kids from school and a bit of random shopping til 7.30 pm!!) plus I ll be the cleanest I ve ever been (another indulgent giant bubble bath simply to get away from that "kids in bed = smoke time" temptation. (Btw I wasn t unhygienic b4 and did shower daily - just in case you were wondering). In summary all s geat and at this early stage I feel it s down to planning to do it, so very focused and the psychology and mind set in Allen Carr s book - as so many of you have said, and what I keep telling myself is that a smoke Isn t a "treat" and I m not "giving up" anything. Here s to day 3 xx
