Every attempt reinforces your desire and determination to quit this dirty, disgusting addiction. It focuses the mind. It makes you stronger.
You go for it
Alcohol can be a problem. I faced up to it early on in my quit by making sure I had some extra NRT with me (lozenges) whenever I was planning to drink.
I would try to avoid alcohol if it is one of your triggers (particularly in the early days). You are doing the right thing sticking with the forum and starting again. I so admire you for doing that.
Keep posting and talking to people on here, it really does help.
Alcohol and quitting don't go together for me either, so I had a totally dry and smoke free January. I'm now introducing a glass of wine back in slowly. I can be fine all day but have a mouthful of red wine and be climbing the walls. Like you say it's just a huge trigger, the good news is it's getting easier and I am starting to enjoy smoke free wine.
I had to go on the waggon for a while and you may have to do the same thing if alcohol is an irresistible trigger. On the other hand, I know others have managed to continue to drink without jeapordising their quit so it really does vary. If you do continue to drink I would definitely double up on the NRT when necessary.
Well done on continuing with your quit though- good for you!
Wine would have been a big trigger for me too. Lowers the resistance and before you know it you have a ciggie in your mouth.
I stopped drinking at the start of January and have found stopping smoking so much easier. Not easy, but easier. I actually don't intend to drink again as I can see after the time off it I'm missing nothing but that's besides the point
Every quit attempt is a learning curve so don't look at it as pathetic. If you can't do it one day at a time, try five minutes at a time. Work your way through HALT. Am I hungry, angry, lonely, tired? Sometimes by the time you've tried to figure it out the craving has passed. I've found fizzy water and extra nrt on top of my patches a life-saver this time.
I am taking all your good advice and am giving myself time to,establish this quit sober and who knows I may decide life without regular wine fests is a better one!!
I have had a really great three days, I have been on a management course and none of the delegates smoke and now I don't need to feel like the odd smelly one out!
