E Cigs

I have seen these E Cigs-and tried a puff a while ago when a friend was quitting.

I'm thinking about getting one-BUT I am worried that the chemicals in them will do just as much damage as a normal cigarettes?? Or that it will just defer my dependence from the ritual aspect of smoking.

What are your thoughts on them?

:)

Could write a book, lol.

Erm, basically (using one of my dad's favourite phrases) they're a good servant but a bad master. As an aid to quitting they *can* be good, as long as you don't re-hook yourself.

As far as they know the chemicals are safe, however after using mine I've got post nasal drip (like when i smoked) and a bit of a cough (ditto) and it gives me a sore throat as well so am not too sure about that. They *aren't* as dangerous as a real fag, there's not going to be any doubt about that 'cos they're evil!!

Despite what the makers say, they don't really feel like you're smoking or taste like it either - it's more of an inhalator but the visible "smoke" is there and the hand to mouth action as well.

Am not their biggest fan, despite using one (and trying to kick that) but if it comes down to an e-fag or smoking there's no contest.

I tried one and didn't feel it was like a cigarette. If you do get one make sure it doesn't contain nicotine. I think the inhalator was a bigger help. Anything that stops you lighting up is ok

I am in two minds. One part of me thinks they are a good alternative to smoking and can be used as part of a strategy for stopping. But they just look too much like smoking! What's the point of trying to distance yourself from the triggers of a cigarette - which are evident before it's even lit - by having an alternative that looks and produces a nicotine kick like a cigarette. However, everyone to their own. If it works - do it. :D

Ooh, meant to say, it has definitely saved my quit - was having a bad time and it kept me off the manky Marlboros. It's just like any other form of NRT really, fine for short term use.

If you can manage without, I'm sure I'm not the only one so would advise that this is the best way :) However, I use my e-cig now and then (usually when drinking on a Friday night) and I don't feel hooked to it. I'll always be wary but I seem to rely on it too much.

If you decide to buy one please make sure you do so from a reputable company (sky cig, VIP) and try to keep to a lower level of nicotine (I have 6mg). Xxx

I did wonder

VIP do (from memory) 24, 11 and 0mg versions, and definitely *don't* buy from a "market stall" kind of thing 'cos who knows what goes into them.

I originally got an e-cig from my mum. This was literally bought from a market stall (didn't even know what strength the nicotine was) and it had a really odd taste.

Asked my other half to try it as well and he said it tasted like burning plastic and tin foil. After us both having a puff (maybe the equivalent of a third of a fag each) we both had really sore tummies

So I called my mum and told her I was chucking it!!

It really is quite worrying what people can get away with.

Oh wow, that's bad!!

One of my friends bought one, it was covered in Chinese writing etc and she asked me to have a go a couple of years ago and it definitely tasted like you described.

I'd think it was a close run thing between inhaling burning plastic and burning tobacco really.

Think the trade body is ECTA, and I'd only buy one that was CE marked.
