Flu is the answer

Nearly 27 years of smoking I have packed the smokes in. In the past I have never given packing up a thought, yes cut down when the finances were not so good but not give up, guess I have been lucky to date with being fairly well & carried on playing football, squash and circuts. However before Christmas I stopped enjoying the vast majority of smokes in fact out of a box of 20 only 2 - 3 were any good this lead me to cutting down to about 10 a day then on 7th February 2013 I was ill - no not man flu, real flu which made my mind up to quit as I could hardly breath. So my advice to those that want to quit is get a dose of flu, then as you lay around for days feeling incredibly rough have a look on the net at all the smoking horror stories and diseases to come later in life and if that does not make you quit you really are beyond help.

Adrian, we are in the same boat! I stopped due to flu as well :) Except you stopped on the 7th and I stopped on the 12th. Maybe it was you who gave me the flu?? Even if you didn't give me the flu directly, I'm sure you spread the flu and so one way or the other, I have reached the conclusion that YOU gave me the flu..... and for that, I thank you :)

The only reason I stopped at that particular moment in time was my flu. Simply because I hadn't smoked all day so I thought I may as well keep this going and haven't smoked since and never will smoke again :)

Keep up the good work, thanks for your post (and for the flu!:D) and welcome to the forum.

Adrian, I stopped for exactly the same reason. I have asthma and a serious bout of the flu a couple of years ago hit me so hard, I literally couldn't climb three stairs, I had to sleep sitting up, I was fighting for breath and my lips were going blue. I've never known anything like it. It scared me straight, and I'm still here and haven't had a puff since!

It was a tough journey for me, to undo the years of habit, and it took some time. But when I faltered the thought of ending my days in that kind of state (and worse) was enough to keep me on the straight and narrow.

Keep on keeping on, and kick that foul habit into touch!

Helen

Hi Craig, nasty that flu virus, but it does have some great benefits - giving up the smokes but next year & in future years I will be paying to have the flu jab!

Like you, I will never smoke again. The whole packing up really is very easy and cannot understand why I did not do it years ago, I really have been very stupid for a very long time.

Scares me just reading that Helen - well done in kicking the habit. Why on earth did we ever get involved with smokes is beyond me!
