Is this normal?? they are not bad or anything like that but I keep feeling them, I am 38 relatively healthy, slim but I am a bit worried...hopefully its the start of the healing process but I would hate to think I have cold turkeyed for 5 days and now I am going to drop dead from a heart attack...

I'm on day 5 too. I can't say that I've had any chest pains. Your not going to drop down from a heart attack. As you say, it is probably just your body getting used to not smoking.

I guess it could be a side affect of quitting the monster Many people experience different things. Have you looked at the side effects thread on here?

Dont panic I wouldnt have thought you were having a heart attack. Are you stressing about not having a ciggie?

Try taking really deep breathes it really helped for me in the early days of cold turkey. Keep your chin up cause you are doing amazingly well.

There are a number of reasons why you could be getting pains, some quit related, some not. It's quite possible that some of it is psychosomatic/anxiety related as a result of quitting. Also, the lungs reviving and the resulting congestion can cause your chest to feel tight, there may be pain or temporary shortness of breath as a result of that. It could even just be that you've pulled a muscle in or around your ribcage!

It does seem unlikely that it's anything as serious as heart problems. But if you are really worried, you should see a GP just to set your mind at rest - there's no point driving yourself mad fretting. And I should add, if you also start to get pain in your jaw, down your arms, if you feel clammy or have severe difficulty breathing, or you have any other symptoms at the same time as the chest pain, then get yourself to A&E pronto!! But I'm sure that won't happen :)

Take care. You're doing great.

I had exactly the same - a really tight chest! It was horrid - it eased after a couple of weeks - I put some Vicks Vaporub on it which really helped!
