day 1 sat 5th jan: Im getting ready 2 stop... - No Smoking Day
day 1 sat 5th jan
Good luck!
Hi dean,
I am only a few days ahead of you, I quit on the 1st of january and to be frank it's been easier than I thought.
I have never used e-cigs, but I have used patches. To be honest, do whatever it takes to quit, that's the important thing!
So anyway, if you are like me, you might be feeling a little nervous. Don't be! tomorrow, just try to distract yourself. Go for a long walk, or read a book (I have been doing both of those when I could fit them in this week) and stay positive. Drink plenty of water to flush crap out of your system and most importantly, be positive. Did I say be positive? Have you got a list with the reasons you want to quit? If not, write one!
Good luck and keep us posted with how you get on. People on this forum are amazing, especially when you feel your resolve is weakening!

Hi Dean,
You absolutely can do this and as ShoeGal says whatever method works for you is fine.
If you don't mind my 2 cents regarding the E-cig I will share with you what a friend experienced and relayed to me. The E-cig can make it harder psychologically due to the fact that it keeps you using the actual physical motion of smoking.
It may or may not affect you. For me, I needed to completely change habits and not do the same associative behaviors. Sorry, not trying to be negative or scare you, I just wanted to share that with you. It doesn't mean it will be your experience however.....
Keep yourself busy, read and post lots (I find this place a GODsend) reach out if you need help someone will always answer.
Best wishes for your success, I know you got this!!!

good luck dean!!
Hi dean, and welcome!
I'm on my 3rd day and its going well. And this is my 4th attempt. I found my first day very easy, I was excited about stopping. Second day I felt very restless, but still I got through it relatively easily and today again was easy but I've had a few wines tonight and have felt more tempted...but I haven't caved in! My boyfriend who is a social smoker thankfully has agreed NOT to smoke near me, or even at all at the moment.
I'm using the gum and finding it great. I used the ecig and patches on my last attempt and I did manage to stop for 10 weeks! But do kind of agree with a previous post that's its all too similar to smoking! But hey if it works for you go for it I found that each time I've tried to stop I've managed to stop for longer each time. Hopefully you are the same as this gives me great confidence.
Keep posting on here and keep reading peoples posts as it keeps you busy and keeps you motivated. And makes you feel supported and people can relate to your experiences. (I've already had discussion with bf tonight - when exactly are you going to say well done, your doing well lol)
Dean
The others are all talking sense and we all need to do what we need to.
I have decided to go CT and on day 4 I feel positive.
The only other advise I will give is use this forum as for me knowing there are others doing the hardest thing in the world at the same time as me and keeping each other positive and smoke free is working. When times are bad ..... tell everyone......there are good people on here that will help.
Good luck and join the rollacoster.......
thanks every1

Best of luck!
I've tried so many times to quit but wasn't ready to that's why I was back on the ciggies within a day or two!
This time around its different. I really really wanted to quit. Just keep persisting you'll eventually do d what works for you.
As others have said, this forum is invaluable for the times that you have a wobble and feel like giving in. It got me through four years and (after several unsuccessful attempts to quit before finding this forum) I've never had a cigarette since.
I went cold turkey as I wanted to completely break the cycle, both psychologically and physically (I've countless friends who couldn't give up the gum or patches afterwards and ended up smoking again which scared me).
For me I set a goal of stopping smoking for three days, after which most of the nicotine has left your body. I knew if I could make it to day three then I was on the home straight and would succeed. Sure, there will be side effects after that (I had really mad dreams, not really nightmares but vivid and trippy for a few weeks), feeling anxious when you are next around smokers or on a first night out after stopping etc, but with every hour that passes it gets easier. Aim to get to day three and then you can be certain you are well on your way!
