DAY 1 Comming to a close

Evening everyone, just thought would check in on you all and see how my happy non smokers are doing today ? I sure as hell picked a great day to stop, with this heat!

Wel as some of you will know, i have been on here last week looking for hints and tips and planning ahead for my big day today! so far so good, well i say that as I have not had one!! as expected my champix doing me wonders, no major flips to temp me on them so far its ok.

I do not however like this empty feeling of missing something, you know what i mean ? that feeling in your chest of tightness desperasion is what im calling it, its like im being suffocated!! but i will not give in, just trying my best to push to one side. And trying to remind myself this feeling will go away in time and if you do have one that feeling of tightness will eventually kill you when my lungs fall out my xxx well you ge the drift!

So as a reward to myself for making it through day 1 unharmed and rather in a high spirit, a chinese and an ice cold bottle of wine is on the cards followed with DVD, I will not venture out to a beer garden with friedns due to temptations on day one, maybe next week when im stronger than what i am today!!

derek

Ahh thanks Karri, means a lot! day one honestly, if only these non somokers knew just how much day one means, like getting through the day with out stabbing some one in the eye with a fork because they walked in front of us in tesco! i think the way we feel at some point ( even just a minute ) i think if i jacked up in a corner on herion it would be easier to get off it than nicotine!

anyways, i feel so good even more with my bottle of wine about to be opened, talk about tempting fate were fags are eeek!!! , day one ? heat ? 27 degrees outside ? BBQ smells ? anyways my thoughts a few month back were " i would rather throw myself in front of the gatwick express than miss a day like this and not smoke"!

but, im now thinking to have more like this when im 60 i have to stop that crap... as many people like me younger not much but younger feel they are great and nothing will happen to them a pack of fags is nothing, its not until we reach later life where the problems begin and thats if your lucky!!!

so my thoughts are, deprive myself of one evening or maybe a few over the next few months to aviod tempataion bu when im 70 i will be rocking them clubs with my great neices with lungs of a 40 year old :-)

Hi Derek

I was hoping you'd post your success :D

The empty feeling passes really quickly to be replaced with elation that you've not smoked.

One little tip with the Champix though is try not to drink too much - I found I got slaughtered really quickly :o but as a consolation hangovers are almost pleasant when you've not had a fag.

Hope tomorrow goes just as well.

Hi Derek

It sounds as if you've got Day 1 well and truly under control, good for you.

I know exactly what you mean when you talk about that 'feeling as if you are missing something'. I'm now at Day 6 of my quit and I can promise you that it does lessen as the days start to pass by.

Enjoy your wine and the last of the sunshine, I was hoping to do the same but we've had a rainy day up here in the north east.

Hope Day 2 is a good one, you can do it.

Thank you mags much appreciated.

Karrie, dont you worry my love i know my limits :-) but, i intend to carry on doing what i enjoy the odd bottle of wine as i dont want to feel like im missing out but im soooo intersted on what you just said? hangovers are not as bad ? well i think i may just pop to tesco grab a second bottle and see what tomorrow brings lol i am offwork the nextweek :-)

seriuosuly i have heard that hangovers are no where near as bad due to oxygen ect but just like you my friends well the ex smoker part all say they get pissed quiker due ot he whole hand to mouth routine as thwy need to compensate the fag element so just srink an extra 4 bottles and STILL not feel as bad next day!

i wish!!! all i hope is one day in the near future is that i can drink, so******e anything and not think of that cig, thats all i want to wish i never ever smoked and have the feeling of a non smoker

Welcome

Welcome Derek, glad you have made the decision to quit especially as you are so young. I wish I had stopped at your age. Well actually I did I quit at 27 and then started again at 35??? Stupid or what?? You will begin to feel the benefits soon and I am sure that your partner will be very proud if you and you never know you may inspire him to quit to! That would be brilliant! Keep posting and reading we are all here to support you we have all been through what you are going through now.;)
