hi all, alittle about myself, i am 37 year old male and tried quitting smoking a year ago cold turkey and was very sick after 4 days. The detox thing really hit me hard and i made it through to the other side but went back to smoking...After hell i actually went back.

Anyhow, came jan of 2012 and quit for a entire month and went back again but didnt get sick with the detox. Now we are in Sept and i quit with the patch but i am real sick again with my body cleaning itself.

I wont go back this time..I just wanted to talk

Hey There!!!

everybody and every quit is different.

Personally the first week was a nightmare for me as i went cold turkey on this one.

The patches didn't agree with me and i found the constant stream of nicotine made me hyper and insomiac prone, (and apparently i turned into a nightmare according to the OH) Oooops! :)

I think a lot of the symptoms you have to ride out and be kind to yourself, take time out, your body is repairing from years of abuse, it happens quite quickly (amazing things our bodies eh?) but it wont happen overnight.

Hang in there, being free of addiction sure is fabulous... i'm 5 and a bit weeks in and i feel a ton better! Count days, hours. successfully overcome craves.... you'll get there, it takes willpower and determination, you CAN do it!

If you have anything that really concerns you then contact your GP.

day 7 (5th go)

Hi,I am 38 and on my 5th attempt of quitting. the longest I have stopped for is 3 months. Today is my 7th day and I am experiencing the shakes a lot and slight dizziness. It does seem to come and go. I have just had a sandwhich and hot drink and I feel much better.I have a chocolate bar for later ready for when my sugar levels go wappy. All I keep telling myself is that my body is repairing itself, so its a good thing to be happening and its another reason why I am stopping because I don't like the control it has on my body. I still keep getting cravings but they do go after about 3 minutes. I am thinking about smoking less today. Day 4 and 5 were bad for me. I will not be fooled and I know its one hour at a time for me, one day at a time. I feel so proud of myself I can't celebrate my success with anyone as since my last failed 4th attempt in 2011, I was to embarassed to tell anyone I'd started again. So I have actually been a SECRET SMOKER since 2011. well infront of my inlaws and children anyway. I read something on here the other day which I have noticed I have found really useful. When I get a craving I have been repeating to myself NOPE! (NOT ONE PUFF EVER)! it has really helped! I am doing this cold turkey this time. reading the comments on here is helping me a lot. What other feelings are people experiencing?

Thanks for the reply. U are doing great and congrats. Yes i am riding out the storm and its tough, but i have no choice, i have to quit and smoking is not an option. I look back and think what was i doing even smoking? Im 37 and been active my entire life and smoked, makes no sense at all. I am hoping i can wiggle my way out of this one....safely...Drinking a ton of water and green tea, going to take control and i as well will not fail. I cant even think about going through this hell again...

Im going to ride out the patches as well, so it makes it calmer for me. As of now since wearing them i dont even have a temptation of smoking, so that is good. i may drop it down to the lower dose after these two hell weeks are done...

Stay focused and let's beat this for good.

I will never smoke again and i mean it.

eymaquitter,

Good luck to you. i want to also say that u need to quit for good and not even one puff, that's the only way to do it..I went cold turkey last year and i failed even though of all the hell i went through. I found if i had a drink just a couple i was needing a smoke..This time around if i have a glass of wine im not so bad with the patches and i am finding they are working for me. My advice from my research is that a nicotine replacement doubles your chances of quitting where other's say cold turkey is the best way to go. Personally i think it's too much of a shock on the system and that's why i am doing the patch. I want to get weaned off it while my body is cleansing itself.

I had the worst last two days of detoxing and feeling a tad better, thought i d throw it in there. Scarey shit i tell yeah.

Nice to have forums like this for support.

Lets all do this and keep in touch.

Stay strong all, we can do it!!!

Hi and well done on your quit

My quitting detox was horrible. That I wouldn't wish it on my enemy if I had one. I was fine for the first 2 weeks was on the full strength 24 hour patch. Then as soon as I started my lower ones that's when it started. Iv got a list of my symtoms on here some where.

I came off the patch a few werks after as I thought if I'm gonna feel ill after I'm changing patches I might as well get it out my system on CT. it was the worse time ever in my life. My entire summer was ruined by detoxing. I'm a few werks off the end of months 5 and although I'm feeling loads better I'm still not 100%

But it does get better. I'm never gonna smoke again. As I no I Wud never quit again.

hi

Shellyinstoke,

Thanks for the comments and congrats on your quit. I totally understand where u are coming from in regards to not being able to do this again....Yeah my detox was seriously real bad too and i was worried i wasnt going to make it...I am serious 2 days of full vomitting ect...My intestines and lungs as soon as i drank water fully soaked the water up and then out it went...My gf was extremely concerned...CIgarrettes are powerful....

I am about 10 days quit now and today was a bad morning, but now finally this afternoon has been the best so far!!! I have a small urge to smoke but after what i went through i wont touch it....I scared myself straight...

The weird thing about my detox, i was on the full 21 mg patch for 7 days and still fell into detox...Thats when i ditched the patch after vomitting ect....Anyhow, whatever the reason its done and never will go through that again..I was about a half pack smoker a day and not much more than that on any given day when i did smoke...

How come your detox lasted all summer? My body is cnstantly cleaning itself still at 9 days post-quit but the 2 days of hell is done...Thank GOD it stopped...I am not using anything now for my quit, just my strong mind.

Thanks again for the post and ill research your experiences.

Thanks!!

It probly wasn't all summer just felt like that. And I think we ou had about a month of it anyway. It's taking a long time for it to get out my system. Probly cuz I was a smoker of 30+ roll up a day. And I used to smoke the strong stuff. Just when they a lot of problems since giving up. Currently having test on my heart ATM.

Think everyone's reacts differently. And iv said b4 its gonna take a lot longer than a few weeks iv read cud be upto a year to get rid of the toxins that iv poisoned my self with for 15 years.

Can u please try and start drinking green tea with lemon and lime? This will help get rid of the toxins faster.......I am drinking a ton of it right now and have been for sometime...If u arent already drinking than start,..If u need any help on what kind to drink or where to order, i have researched this and can help u..Im not a seller or making money, but just want to help..I figure if im going to drink 6-10 cups of this a day better be the good shit or its not worth my time. ANyhow, i know it has been doing positive changes to my body...Everyone should be on it...White tea is also fantastic....Drink away for the health.....try it.....If u honestly feel your body is slow at getting rid of the toxins u need to act and help...Ginger, garlic, spinach, and green tea should be yr daily favorites...After years of abuse we need to give back,,,,

let me what u think,

have a good night and thanks for the post.
