Hi Amanda, I know exactly how you feel! I was exactly the same. Visit your GP and get something for your bowels because that can be really depressing and I left it, I just kept thinking it will get better but it took some time with me. Just think these symptoms wont last forever and long term these side effects are better than a chronic illness caused by smoking. Keep your chin up and keep on keeping on, you will get there and it will be so worth it. Nothing worth having comes easy.
Yes I had the bleeding gums.. For a bit.. Me dentist said its normal.. Move are fine now and so much pinker as now I'm not restricting the blood flow too them..
When I brush change to s soft tooth brush also floss and use a mouth wash.. My dentist also told me font bother usi g cordasol or wot ever it's called.. As it Staines ur teeth.. And it should only be used for gum disorders..
This is all quite normal when you quit hun so nothing to worry about unduly.
Your gums will bleed becasue when you smoke the blood vessels constricy, when you stop the oppsoite happens. If they continue to bleed them make an appointment with your hygenist. Smoking causes gun disease so you may need to have a deep clean but the blleding is in away a good sig as the blood is flowing again. I know it is night nice, just keep an eye on it.
Please don't feel down about the changes in your body. Some are unpleasant to start but it is your body getting rid of the crap and getting back to normal. We don't realise what an impacy smoking has on our bodies and it will take time for our bodies to readjust. We have pumped it full of poisons on a very regular basis. Just go with it, treat your body with the respect it deserves. It will heal in time.
PS smoking stimulates your bowels, things will settle down and be as they should be. Try to eat as healthily as you can and things will settle, honestly xx
Only just seen this post. One of my main reasons for stopping smoking was to help my mouth - I don't want to be 40 and have no teeth left. During a previous gase of gum disease the advice I was given regarding Corsadyl mouthwash was to use it for one month as directed and then switch to Lysterine (other brands of mouthwash are available in a similar price range, it's just that these are the brands I would use).
This will prevent your teeth from staining and will also allow for best possible healing. I also agree with the deep clean and am trying to pluck up the courage to make an appointment with my dentist (I had no fear of dentist for years until I had a tooth removed when I was 22 and it was absolute agony). Anyway, just thought I would share
thanks everyone, my gums still bleed alot when brushing byt i had my 8 monthly check with my dentist, ive got to have a deep gum clean, he says it will be sore afterwards but should help. he also said that because i have stopped smoking he needs to see me more often and has made monthly appointments for me, so it may be the same for you.
I too have had really sore teeth and gums. Just had dental appointment today. I think the issue is that smoking reduces your circulation including your gums. That is why smoking makes your teeth fall out. As the blood supply increases then your gums might bleed. Dentist did deep clean today to get rid of all the tar related goo. Her advice was to keep brushing around the gums and use corsadyl mouthwash.
All the early quit symptoms do suck. I just have to tell myself the long term damage would be much worse. You are doing fantastic. Hang on in there through the bumps in the road.
Hi all - I've too had issues with my gums. I changed the head on my electric tooth brush as the brush was a bit knackered and when I saw the dentist Y hygenist 6 mths ago she noted that my sore gums were probably due to the brush being knackered and too much brushing on the gums. When I used the new brush, the gums mostly cleared up.
Hope you're all OK out there today - feeling better now myself than earlier in the week - maybe its the sun
Yes it's normal I had it.. My dentist said it was that smoking hardens the gums. Now I'm not there getting back to normal more blood is flowing in them.

Hi sorry I disagree with u there as corsadyl is great for infestions it really stains ur teeth

Just re-read my above post and can see where I have been confusing. Corsadyl should only be used for one month unless otherwise directed by your dentist. It's not a long term thing which is why it is only to be used for one month. I learned that the hard way as I had been using it for a 6 month period and it took the dentist to tell me to stop using it. It's people who continue to use it who will suffer from constant staining. Under normal conditions toothpaste will remove the stains that it leaves on your teeth, at worst a scale and polish from the dentist will do this.
I am currently using a toothpaste that contains co enzime Q10 and I can actually see where my gums are growing. I know they will never be what they should but if they can heal slightly then that's good enough for me.
