Ok..so I started feeling this weird like annoying feeling in my heart area last night...not a real bad pain but more just like a minor ache. I have not smoked a cig in 25 days now...I of course started having instan anxiety about this. Is this normal or should I go to a doctor?

I would highly recommend seeing a doctor, not that there is likely to be anything wrong, but just because I don't think you should be letting anything like that go unchecked.

Alex.

Is it like butterflies in your chest?? If it is I had that for a bit but then it went after a few weeks..

Almost just like a sore muscle..but not like one in your neck when you sleep bad...just a little "twinge" type feeling...seems to kinda move around too.. just never had it..but I have been a lot of self aware since quitting..and add in heightend axniety from quitting too. I have a doctor appt for a physical August 6th..just wanted to see if anyone else had experiecnced this. I am a little past 3 weeks now of CT.

For a month or so mostly at night it felt like I had butterflies in me chest or felt line someone was sitting on it., like I could get a full lungs of air.. I was to it was norma.. Even the doctor couldn't find anything and said it was more than likely anxiety. And he prob right too.. As I still get a bit of it now iv bin quit 66 days too.. And my chest plays up when it happens.. But go see ur doctors if ur worried.. As a friend collage teacher told me when she gave up.. She developed asthma.. And never had problems with her chest when she was a smoker.. As I do think smoking masks problems

Thanks Shelly. I was kind of freaking out..then read symptoms o heart attacks...then started freaking out more etc etc... I just need to chill I think. It's like every little symptom makes me worry. I do have a physical setup in a little over a week so I should know then. It's like ever since I quit I am becoming a hypochondriac.

Quitting makes you like that. I was pretty fit till I stopped smoking and now I'm like an old woman. OK, I am an old woman but I didn't feel like one before. More aches and pains than I ever had but I'm assured it will get better.

I agree (except man) I am 29, will be 30 in sept, and never really had any anxiety or anything the 14 years I smoked. Rarely got sick..like maybe once a year and never freaked about every little thing. I always was up for going out or anything really. Always got up an hour early before work and watched tv and had my coffee and had a bright outlook on life.

Now I feel depressed sometimes, anxiety here and there, every physical symptom makes me panic and want to go to a doctor (even though I was there literally 11 days ago and he checked my heart beat and pulse and blood pressure. I don't feel like doing anything..even going to the store is like a huge ordeal I feel like. I get nervous that I will have some kind of panic attack in pulbic. It just sucks now..it really does. It truly makes me wonder if quitting is realy even worht it..to feel this shitty is no way to live. These last 23 have truly been terrible. My fiance is even worried I wont ever go back to being my normal self.

Thanks Shelly. It looks like we are on a very similar journey. Totally sucks..and I even put a cigarette in my mouth last night to "see how it felt." I will be honest..it felt weird and gross.. I know my mind is just f'ing with me to get me back to the habit. It just sucks (as you know) and its tempting to fix all of this with one drag..but I will do my best to stay strong.

It will pass. I'm 68 and only ever have to go to the doctor if I've had an accident. Broke my hip.

Are you using NRT or going CT? I'm using patches and I'm sorry I didn't manage to go CT because every time you go to a lower patch the symptoms all come back. I hate all this anxiety and panicky feelings. Today I'm feeling good but I know when I stop the patches it will come back 3 days later.

Don't worry, you will go back to being your normal self. Read lots of posts and look at all the people who have been where we are and live Happily Ever After :-)

Una,

I went cold turkey. I ended up in the hospital one day afer having 6 cigs and some coffee then thinking I could hop on the exercise bike for go full blast. I felt like I was having a heart attack so I eneded up in the ER. Turned out to be dehydration. After that I took a 2 day break from cigs and then when I went to smoke again I got literally panic attacks so I just said ok I'm done. That was 23 days ago. I have not felt like myself since but I gotta believe it will get better.

I have used some homeopathic anxiety relief tablets and some herbs to help with the anxiety and panic.

I should still be on my patches. But after reading about its like quitting again I came off um.. And I'm glad I did.. As it does feel like iv had to quit again on day 12 of CT i think and still feel yuk.. Prob take me a month CT frim patches.. I no what u mean everytime the nurse changed my patch I felt terrible.. And tbh I felt brill the first few weeks when I was in the high 24 hr patch soon as she gave me the nxt strength that's when all my symptoms started..

Una,

I have used some homeopathic anxiety relief tablets and some herbs to help with the anxiety and panic.

I bought some Rescue Remedy drops last week and they worked.

You must remember that you are getting all the other poisons out of your system as well as the nicotine so it isn't something that will happen overnight.

Ok so after full working myself into a full fledge panic attack (thanks google etc) I decided to sop by the doctors office (25 bucks is worth a piece of mine and equal to 3 days of not smoking as well) She listend to my heart and BP and gave me a good look and listen to. I told her about my chest issues and she told me this "you heart is actually in the middle of your chest-if you are having a heart attack you will feel pain in the middle of your chest" I was experiencing an almost muscle pull type feeling in the left-middle-right stomach etc. Also with not being as regular due to not smoking..probably played into it.

I gave her my full rundown of how I got to this point of not smoking and my anxiety-panicky feelings. She said if I wanted she would perscribe me a low dosage perscription of generic zoloft to help me deal a little better. Her main point was..there isnt much worse for you than smoking..and if you need this for a little than take it.

Good that you went to your GP I really think you are just adjusting to your new non smoking life. It wont always be like this and soon you will feel much better just like Shelley will. As your doctor so rightly said there is nothing worse than smoking. Keep going and keep posting.

Think we've got to remember that just cos we've stopped smoking doesn't mean every little thing can be blamed on that! I would take chest pains seriously.
