I am calling yesterday day 0 of not smoking as I did have one ciggie past midnight... but none after waking up on Tuesday morning
Today is, then, day 01 - 36ish hours in. I feel OK about it - no cravings or anything, though I did buy and am carrying nicotine gum about with me!
This giving up smoking lark is easy... why doesn't everyone do it?
WOW lucky you! there are'nt many who come on here in the first few days and say that. Good luck and keep it up. Let us know how you are getting on and keep reading the posts on this forum it really does help, everyone has been through what you will go through so we understand and give great advice and support.
This is day 2 then. Funny how people can't work out what day they are on when they quit. If someone said I will pay you £100 for ever day you don't smoke you'd know exactly what day you were on to the minute

Ha ha!!!! I posted day 2 or 3 when I first came on here the other week because I wasn't sure if you counted a couple of drags....desperation from me I think, wanted to cling on to an extra day....seems funny now....and ages ago! Anyway, how did I go from "Junior Member" to "Member"???!
I'm a senior member so it means I get to boss you about
I was surprisedto see I'd done 50+ posts, didn't realise it....you guys can boss me about all you like as long as you keep turning up every day and posting, after 22 years I'm tentatively approaching the 3 week mark without a fag....thank God for this forum

Love that response because that is exacly how I felt! I have needed this forum so much, I dont think I would have quit without it. You have our support dont worry about that!
Thanks Haze, I do get that feeling...given a few weeks I might be able to be a bit more supportive to newcomers, and hope to be so, but it's hard to do much more than say "good luck" when you're new to it yourself in case you say the wrong thing  great great forum though, wouldn't be without it....
Angry Bear I'm not quit so can't offer any support right now. Haze and others are always around for you and you're never alone. When I join in you will help me and so the circle of support carries on
Well it's still nice to read your posts; hopefully I will still be about when your time comes around

It was more an issue of how to define "day"... going by "sleeps" means it was day two, but I have a feeling that "sleeps" is only a valid time period if you are a child around Christmas time
Anyway, its is just shy of 48 hours since I had a ciggie. I feel good - and it is worrying me somewhat; quitting smoking isn't supposed to be easy
I assume something bad is going to come along fairly soon and make me feel awful... which seems fair I suppose
Richard, I posted something similar to you when I first quit. It's too easy!!!!!!! Then the S**T hit the fan. It's not so bad I'm in my 2nd month now and confident that I will never ever buy a packet of fags again. I smoked for 50 years and apart from the first 3 weeks, which were H**l, it does get better. It gets easier all the time.
Welcome, congrats and well done on your decision to quit.
I'd say it was Day 2 - don't swindle yourself in the early stages! What quit method are you on?
It's brilliant to see you so positive and determined. It's not guaranteed that nasty times will come and bite you on the bum, but keep your guard up, because it is guaranteed to be a bit of a rollercoaster ride! Rest assured it gets easier though, as you'll see from reading posts a little further down the line.

Actually it is. Sadly we're bombarded with the 'fact' that it's incredibly hard although it is easy to fail. As it's so easy to fail it thus appears hard to quit thus reinforcing the myth and making a subsequent effort that little bit harder.
Anyone who does have an easy quit then becomes regarded as a bit freakish.
Quitters focus on all the negative aspects of cessation and usually forget it's as simple as just stopping buying them, stopping sticking 'em in your gob and stopping lighting them.
Quitting fags is as hard as the quitter makes it.
Nothing is in the rules. There aren't any rules.
If you don't like the rules you've found then find one's you do.

They're all as valid.
There are negative aspects - not smoking is actually pretty dull! All those little bits in the day that aren't long enough to do anything constructive but which are long enough for a ciggie are pretty annoying...
...only because you've made them into smoking opportunities.
I used to be dreadful for leaping out of the sofa when a commercial break came on the TV and grabbing a smoke.
I still leap out of the sofa but do something else. With smartphone advancement my new habit is to check FB or Twitter when a break comes on.
The only smoking opportunities we used to have were at points in our day when we weren't doing something else. It's easy to see why we therefore associated smoking with relaxing despite the crashing faux pas that nicotine is a stimulant.
