Aren't we all doing well?
Been a long time reader if an infrequent poster on these forums. Hit my 1 year since my quit on the 21st June. Thanks to everyone on here whose posts inspired me even though they never knew it.
I can honestly say I've never felt better. Fitter, healthier, richer, de-stinkified (new word!). I genuinely don't miss it any more and can't imagine any reason why I would ever take up the awful habit again.
I stopped cold turkey with a little help from a hypnotherapy app on my iPhone in the first couple of weeks. The key for me was a combination of education and a change of mindset and lifestyle. I took up cycling and have just signed up for my first 100 mile Sportive between Glasgow and Edinburgh in Sept. Something I'd never have thought myself capable of a year ago.
For those just starting out on this path, you really can do it. Read as much as you can to understand and educate yourself on your addiction, make a conscious effort to change your lifestyle, and be prepared sometimes to just grit your teeth and suck it up to get through the difficult moments.
It's all been worth it for the way I feel now. As much as I made one of the worst decisions of my life when I took my first smoke, I've now made one of the best decisions of my life to counter it by quitting.
Thanks again. And here's to the rest of our lives without those awful smokes.
Cheers
