Well, blinkin blimey, how the flip did I get here?
50 days as of midnight tonight and I'm still keeping on, keeping on...
I'm sitting here just chillin' having not long back from DJing a wedding, kit's all put away, Nanny H has retired to bed and the mutt is asleep on the foot-stool. I have a glass of wine, there's crap tv on (well, it is quarter-to-two) so I thought I'd have a mooch on here.
Looking back, I'm drawn to my first meeting with the NHS Smoking Cessation Nurse. "You've got to fill in this form to get NRT on prescription", she said. I remember looking at the form and thinking, "hang on, am I really sure I want do this?" I'm so thankful I did!
There is no way I'm out of the woods yet. The NRT patch dose goes down next week so we'll see if that makes a difference. I still struggle when I'm tired (see earlier posts) but generally what peeps further down the line say about triggers are spot on. It DOES get better. You get a trigger, you rationalise, you stare it down, you move on. It might take a few times before the same trigger is conquered but you DO get there if your head is in the right place.
There are posters on this forum that are struggling with their quits at this time or have quit quitting for whatever reason. To you guys and gals...
Just because I've reached 50 days, it doesn't mean I'm any better than you. I AM YOU! 50 days ago I was anxious and scared and assumed I cave in within a week. But, the time was right for me and I think I'm in a position to take this quit forward with confidence.
If you are struggling, just hang in there. I don't mean quit for the sake of it (if you know you are going to fail then what's the point?), what I mean is, keep that thought that you will quit. You will get there. It might not be today but don't just abandon yourself totally to the smokes once again. Read the tag-line in my signature...Sleep well, my friends. x

50 days is a tremendous achievement. Think back to when you started. Do you remember how HUGE a number something like 50 days sounded then? I sure do. It was like contemplating the stratosphere.
I agree - those of us who've managed somehow to achieve these seemingly dizzying heights have a responsibility to let the youngsters (the newer quitters) know that it's very doable - quite possible - and that you don't have to be a super human to do it.
Just a day at a time, an hour at a time. Just don't smoke. Evuh. That's all it takes.
I know it seems impossible but it's not. There are MILLIONS of people who've successfully quit - anyone can do it.
So once again, Pappy, congratulations! Here's to the next 50!
Well done you! And soon it will be 60, 70, 80 days, and then you'll lose count!
I'm only a couple of weeks ahead of you Pappy, and although I still get my moments, they are less frequent and less intense. Just so as you know that it'll be even easier in a couple of weeks time! I've even started to sleep better these last couple of nights. Fingers crossed that continues!
