Don't pressure yourself Jacqui, you will do it when the time is right.

Get your head in the right place first, but do keep posting, it's great to hear from you......

Hey Jacqui,

Don't keep beating yourself up about this. You will quit when you are ready. I know everyone says that but they say it because it's true. Just don't give up on giving up but choose the best time for you to quit again...it's no use quitting whilst major stuff is going on or you feel down/depressed. You will just fail and this in turn will make you feel more down and catch 22 just keeps happening. Concentrate on getting your head straight and feeling better about yourself, you'll have a much greater chance of quitting the tabs then.

Take care and keep posting.

Hi Jacqui

Good to hear from you, only reaffirm what everyone else has says, get yourself in the right place, we'll be here with open arms.

In the meantime, keep posting.

Big hugs :)

As others have said, do keep visiting/logging on. And again similar to what Shojam, Lisa and Sara have said...do wait to quit until it feels less stressful. Lisa has hit the nail on the head by saying that it could become a Catch 22 situation at the moment.

No-one ever said it was a race to quit but we do say that we all can. And that means you too. Get yourself into a better place in yourself and try again...as ever there will be folk here to support you along that journey :)

Wishing you well with your quit, like someone has already said its not a race or a competition. quit for u and coz u want to. Thinkink of quitting is just as much a part of it as quitting. I hope the depression lifts soon.

Hi Jacqui

Life sounds really tough for you at the moment. Don't let the prospect of quitting, failing to quit, or wanting to quit but not feeling up to it right now, etc, stress you out even more. Mash is right - thinking about quitting is just as much a part of the process as the quit itself.

I can remember thinking - for many years - 'I don't want to quit. I just want NOT to want a cigarette'. I wasn't happy smoking but couldn't face quitting.

You will know when the time is right. Keep reading and posting -

Could not agree with this more...it will happen but you need to get all your ducks in a row before taking them swimming as it were.

This is your quit Jacqui and only you can know how you feel inside - don't put yourself under any pressure to quit - you will know when you're ready.

I agree with what everybody else said! :D

There's no point jumping into something half-heartedly and not having the motivation to keep up the motion. Best to wait until you really feel ready to take the plunge.

But, don't lose sight of the end-goal. I'm assuming that like many people, you WANT to quit, but the getting started part is the most difficult. Wanting something is not enough... You also need to have the courage and conviction that you can achieve that end-goal. Thus I believe you need to have an on-going dialogue with yourself, exploring what, why, where, when etc. until you get to the point where you feel strong enough to give it another try.

It could be days, weeks, or months before you feel ready, but the important thing, I believe, is not to simply push the issue out of your mind... Too many of us have done that, and ended up taking the emergency exit at the last minute!

Courage! (as they say in French).

Alex.

Hi jaqui i know EXACTLY how you feel about the whole thing. I have posted on day 1 now about 5 maybe 6 times? longest i have gone is 5 days where i had a really crappy day of it, couldnt handle the depression and smoked...later cried about it as in reality it doesnt change anything.

I was told twice yesterday that im obsessed with my addiction and it made me think that i really need to A) stop bothering or B) just silently get on with it and stop draging other into this rollercoaster. So today is a new day, woke up, no cigs for me. im taking option B. I had a little cry last night as i do really want to give up, im just not good at change and resist it at all costs.

Anyways. Try, try and try again if thats what it takes. trying never hurt anyone and atleast your not in denial you have a problem, thats the first step isnt it? good luck and head up xxxx

You can do this :)

Hi Nikki

The mindset thing is a whole can of worms isn't it!

Have you read Alan Carr? It really could help with your way of thinking about giving up....as in what are you giving up?

You can do this, get over that 5 day hurdle and you'll be well on your way.

Keep positive

:)

hey thanks yeah i think if i can get rhough day 5 that mental barrier will go if you get me.

yeah i got allen carrs book, it throws me off though becuase he is very much a cold turkey man, but i do see the point in feeling ill for 2 weeks when i can ease my way in.

anyways after researching about what is in cigs and how they are made some things are very clear as to why maybe nrt works. we have to withdraw from the other chemicals too not just nicotine and also they treat the tabacco to make the nicotine hit us faster, using nrt for a few days my cravings in the morning are less severe...now if im still using nicotine..how is that explained?

i love allen carrs psychology though, it is important us smokers see it for what it is, it helps us not to justify having one in the darkest hours...anyways ramble over!! haha xxx
