Hi everyone,

Just a quick question. I noticed someone here was taking Zyban.

Is it still available on prescription in the UK?

Hey Lizzie, good to see you back :D

I think Zyban is still available, but according to my doc it is hardly ever used anymore. Why don't you try Champix again as you did so well last time. I am back on day 19 now (not smoking I mean). Took me ages to get this quit back on the road, think my starter motor broke lol

Love,

Zoe xx

The GSK handouts were not of the same standard as Pfizer's and the brown envelopes were far less well stuffed.

Give it a year or two and the phrase will be, "Zyban? Never heard of it mate.."

Thanks Austin and Zoe (Zoe...it's great to see you doing so well..I knew you could do it)

I've been checking out Zyban on the Net and for some people it has amazing results as an anti-depressant. Quote.."I've been on WB (Zyban) for almost 2 years and have lost depression, fuzzy thinking, and weight (30 lbs). I have gained strength, happiness, and libido". Sounds great!!

It also has some horrible/dangerous side affects (for some people)

I suffer from depression and it seemed a good choice (as well as an aid to stop smoking). My doctor wouldn't prescribe it, hence my question.

Austin.. maybe Glaxo didn't take him out for dinner enough??

Zoe...yes. I might go back on the Champix route. It DID work for 3 months!!

Hi Lizzie,

Long story short, for what it's worth - my quit nurse of 2.5 yrs back informed me that Zyban was no longer a consideration (for anyone in my local Shire, regardless of medical history) due to it's link with suicide from some folk suffering certain types of depression. I wan't looking to be prescribed Zyban or Champix but that was her 'take' at the time.

Good to see you back and preparing for your next quit from the horrendous hold that smoking has on us :)

Pol

Hi Lizzie .. the leaflet I received from my quit nurse which led me to this forum mentioned zyban as one of the aids .. check the nhs site here

smokefree.nhs.uk/ways-to-qu...

Pol's post is a concern though .. better check with the doc first.

Good luck with what you decide to do.

I tried to quit on many occasions prior to using Zyban. My friend who smoked 2 packs a day quit using this drug which totally amazed me. I swore I had wasted enough money harming my lungs. I started Zyban and set my quit date for 2 weeks. On the last day before that date, I was sitting around and realized I had not had a cigarette all day, and I haven't had one since. The cost of the medicine is no more than the cost of a carton of cigarettes for a month

I've ordered it online from online to save money$$... Good Luck to all!

Huge welcome Dunaway and congratulations on stopping (can you confirm your stop date for you milestone badges)

Please note this post is over 6 years old so perhaps create a new introductory post sharing your story.

Also, I removed the last line of your post as it referenced a product and pharmacy which would be against posting guidelines :)
