Stopped on July 19th, however, when I go out drinking I am fine until about 7 pints into it when I have the odd fag, ths has happened twice in 5 months and I do wake up next day and just carry on as though nothing has happened.
Failure or just blips????

I am surprised you remember you smoked after 7 pints though!! May be cut down on the pints before you get to the stage of wanting a smoke.....
I would definitely put a stop to it now though whilst you can carry on as though nothing has happened otherwise it might be difficult to get back on the wagon again eventually.
I would not necessarily say you have 'failed', because that all depends on what your aims are, although I would agree with Karri that you are a 'social smoker', rather than a non-smoker.
If you are happy with that, then that's your decision, but beware of the 'social smoking' creeping up. A very small minority of people can actually sustain being a 'social or occasional smoker' - most will become full-time again (current research suggests it's to do with genetics). Certainly the people I know who've tried just end up making all sorts of little 'rules' to allow themselves to smoke - one person even started drinking every night because he had a rule that he could smoke with alcohol .
I think you need to be really honest with yourself and decide whether or not you are willing to take that risk. Only you know yourself well enough - it's not my place to rationalise or condemn your actions.
I appreciate all the comments and agree, I did not set out to be a social smoker, I set out to quit, therefore, after stopping on July 19th 2011 and having three blips all up:
1. Melbourne Cup Day (1st November)
2. Friends birthday (24th Novemebr.
3. Christmas party (17th December)
Probably smoked around 14 fags all up across the three blips, however, my new years resolution is to stop smoking at all and I have since been out three times with success in 2011 (inclding New years eve), onwards and upwards for 2012, I still like to think I'm nearly six months into it, but just opted for a different path to others, however, as long as the end goal is achieved it has been a jouney to remember.
See how after the first long break (July to November), you then end up going just 3 weeks between blips.. Need to be careful you don't get back to a week, a few days, and then "bang" back to 20 a day..
I used to think of good excuses for a night out, just so I could accompany that night out with a packet of fags, just to say "well, I only smoke when I have a few beers"
Good luck in the new year, and hopefully January will go without problems..
