Champix: Hi there,im on day 2 of champix,been... - No Smoking Day
Champix
Hey Ali,
Champix works so keep taking them, you will know when you are ready to quit. Working for me - 3 weeks and 3 days now.
TC,
Zoe
I've heard loads of people talk about Champix on here. What is it exactly? The last big thing I really heard about was Zyban, which apparently had some health risks (heart issues as I remember).
From what I gather here, it weakens the cravings, but do you then lower the dose over months and then come off it all together or what?
Be interested to hear, being as it's obviously popular
Thankyou zoemac,will do
Barney, from what i can gather you take 1white tablet in the morning for 3 days and then 1white tablet in morning and a blue one at night (dont know what diff in colour does )but still carry on smoking and after about 10 days or sooner you should feel as if you dont need a cigarette. They are all sorted out in a pack for you with day 1 etc and morning and night.
You then carry on taking champix for a few more weeks but some people say they have prescriptions and dont need to take them, others carry on for a few months.
Think it personal choice.
I did mention to doc about zyban as heard a lot about it but apparently it caused seizures or something.
There is still side effects with champix like most drugs like feeling sick and headaches, weird dreams etc but so far ive had nothing.Still smoking though and doc said u can get all side effects with just coming off cigarettes and going cold turkey.
I wil carry on and see how i go,allthough i will admit i seem to be smoking more last few days as if waiting and daring myself for the feeling of not wanting to smoke to kick in.Crazy or what.
I am the only one in my family who smokes now and apart from my husband and my niece no one knows i am on the tablets allthough they would all love to see me quit.I need to do this for myself and on my own without all the hangers on asking questions and waiting for me to fail.
Best thing to do is look on the net about champix and see if you like what u read.
Hi Ali
I have stopped smoking for one month. I used champix. I got the weird dreams and slight nausea, but what really got to me was heartburn. I stopped taking champix just under 2 weeks ago now and have been cold turkey since.
The full champix course is 12 weeks. I would say it is personal choice about when to stop though.
G'day folks,
Posts about Champix over the past few years has informed that if one feels nauseas taking the tabs then experiment around your meals with it. For example, one champix user used to have half her meal, take the tab, and then finish the second half of her meal. Water is good to sip along with too....and then vitamins C and D are depleted so you could possibly up the intake of those for a while.
Champix is just one of the many ways that one can start a quit off but whatever way works for you is great. Starting the quit off is only one part of the journey you're going through. You'll find it quoted a lot on this site that if you read and educate yourself into an understanding of what you're going through in this journey then the trip should be a lot smoother.
Many members have links in their sigs and if you wish to search further than this forum you'll get loads of info from them. A couple of sites - WhyQuit and Woofmang.
Keep on keepin' on,
Cav
Sounds interesting stuff. Cheers for the info! Will hopefully not need to start another NRT therapy, but always good to know how people are approaching it
