day 11 on champix !

ok , so i stopped smoking on 7th march ( my 48th birthday !), i asked to go on champix by the nurse at my doctors after trying & failing with patches & gum , the first week when i was on the 1 tablet seemed fine, i am now on the 2 tablets a day (1mg) & all is not well, the problem is going to the toilet!! since i started the 2 a day champix i need to visit the toilet abouut 4-5 times in the morning, or sometimes i get mild stomach cramps & wake up at 330 and have to go then , about 3 times, is anyone else having this problem with champix? i read the side effects on the leaflet & to be honest i am not suffering from many at all, i have mild nausia but it passes after 30 mins or so, i know that diarrhea is listed on the leaflet as a side effect but i wouldnt go as far as to say i have that , i am very very loose but once the morning is over i am fine, i just thought i would ask on here as i am not back to see the nurse untill the 21st of march, thanks for any advice

I'm on Day 24 of champix, stopped smoking on day 13 so am 11 days smoke free. I had very bad diarrhea from about day 8 for a week it was really getting me down was nearly stopping taking them but i'm glad I didn't, its settled down now and I feel good. Don't think I could of done this without the champix, still get cravings but trying to keep busy. I would say persevere and the side effects will pass. Good luck

hi chris & thanks for the reply, well what i done was only took 1 tablet yesterday & hey presto 1st nights sleep in over a week !!!! no cramps, no running to toilet, i have decided to only take 1 tablet untill i can see my nurse next week,

Now on 8th day of Champix, no side effects apart from odd dreams, some not so good.

Are you taking tablet with food? something a little substantial, I had a little bit of nausia when I started the 1mg tablete x 2 per day but only for 2 days, my stomach seemed to adjust to them and all ok again.

Steve, I think you may just have sensitive stomach, but what's 12 weeks of stomach problems compared to a life time of smoking!

wow i was so wrong !!, i took a champix 0730 yesterday morning, went to bed at 2245, up again on toilet from 0230 till 0530 , dozed off & woke up at 0830 & had to dash to the toilet :eek:, time i gave this champix up, i cant go on like this, its madness !, im on my 13th day smoke free as well

just a update

as you know i was on champix,i took 1 a day for the first week or so then moved on to 2 a day, at this time i got severe diarrhea, i put this down to the champix so i stopped them , i went to the doctors after stopping the tablets , explained the situation, she told me i needed to give some stool samples which i did & she said they would be sent off to check for gastroenteritis, infections etc, i got the results today, they were clear with "nothing to report", the tablets are well out my system now, thing is i still have bad diarrhea, there was a lot of blood in the early stages as i told the doctor & this seems to have settled down at the moment although the diarrhea is still there , just without all the blood, i wake up in the morning lets say 5am, go to toilet back & fwd i must go about 5/6 times, i am eating a better diet as i checked the forums for advice, i have a actamel, & a couple of bannanas, then i might have a lasagne or something later on in the day, once the morning bout is over i still go to the toilet about 5 times during the day, eventhough i have had this prob for a cpl of weeks or so,i would assume that it would be on the mend by now or signs of mending eg:less trips to the toilet, thicker bowel movements etc, i have lost no weight, im not tired or anything, i feel fine apart from the very odd touch of nausia that passes in 30 mins or so but this is very infrequent, like i said earlier my tests were clear, i have a appointment with the doctor again on wed

hope things get settled down for you real soon. tis is a lot to deal with and your doing real well to handle it all along with quitting too.

well i thrown the towel in !! bought some ciggies today, i got enough to contend with without trying to quit, i feel so annoyed with myself :mad: & i just think that once i have sorted my problem out i can try again !!! i lasted 3 weeks anyway !

well, had blood tests done & the results came back with a "liver function" problem ! no idea if this is down to the champix or not, i have to go & give more blood on monday, this is gonna be a long weekend & im worried sick now !

Sorry to hear that your awaiting more tests and are at your wits end at the mo. Fingers crossed you will get some good news next week and then you can get on with your life again, as for the quit you will do that when your ready. Anyhow good luck and heres to some good news for you.
