Still going strong... day 12!!!

Hi,

Only my second post on here, and although I havent written much I have been reading everyones posts, as its really helping me keep feeling strong, makes me laugh and stops me feeling like the only person on the planet who's quitting!!

I'm happy to say that I'm still smoke free at Day 12, and am feeling relatively okay with it...much better than I thought I'd feel. (Dont know if I'm just really good at convincing myself if I'm okay, or if I am actually okay with it?!)

Have found that mid afternoon is the hardest time of day for me, think my brain is tired of diverting itself elsewhere when I get a memory/craving, but I have found that my best defence at this time is a hot, sweet, cup of coffee, which I sit and drink on my sofa, as opposed to standing outside my back door, and have a total 10 minute time out in my busy day!! Didnt actually realise that I got a buzz off coffee when I was a smoker, but it really does perk me up!

Still using the Patches, but have been thinking about not using them. a bit scared to do it incase I cant get through the 48 hours!! So have decided that I'll aim to do it at start of week 5, and at the latest end of week 6.

I have been checking my "time stopped and money saved" NHS app on my i-phone (twice daily! lol ), been dreaming of my new UGG boots for next winter (my treat to myself for quitting) and reading some of the links on here, which have led me to articles like Tales from the Quit - Choose your Pain - which really really really helped me to keep strong and get my head in the right place - so thank you to whoever wrote the article, and to whoever posted the link to it.

At the moment, i'm not feeling like I'm gonna wobble...but havent faced a "stress test" yet...so who knows. I'll do my best to "KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON!!!"

It always feels like you are the only one. That is one of the best things about this place is that everyone here knows what you are going though and someone will have always been here before

One of the best expressions I have ever heard is 'fake it till you make it' I think that is what alot of us do and it really does seem to help (PMA and all that)

Dont rush yourself, when you feel ready go for it. I would suggest keeping a patch with you at all times to start as if you feel you need it you will have it to hand

12 days is excellent, stay strong, keep reading and posting.

  • Came to find you as I must have missed your post! Well done :D

Afternoons are also my hard times. My nurse said she will be leaving me on the 21mg patches for 8 weeks as she doesn't think 6 is enough to beat the mental addiction and then I will be reduced to 14mg for 2 weeks and 7mg for the next 2.

I am in no rush to get rid of them, I know if it wasn't for the patches I would have relapsed long ago and probably not even made it past day 1 :D
