Hi, I'm new to the forum, have been reading some posts on here this morning and found them really helpful
My quit date is tomorrow 8/3/2011 and although i've tried before and failed to give up, i'm determind to give it a good go this time and where as before i tried it on my own without much support so thought i'd do it different this time, been to the chemist and have been prescribed champix last week, registered on here (glad i've found this forum) and plan to go to local smoking clinic as often as i can
The biggest motivators, reasons why i want to give up smoking is for me, my beautiful children, my bank balance, i want to be healthier which is enough to get me started lol
so here's my start of giving up......tomorrow is day 1

Good luck for tomorrow, although l am sure that you will find it easier this time around.
I stopped, with the help of Champix 3 + years ago, and found it to be fantastic. Previously l had tried many, many times to give up, using every aid available, but without success - in fact, l had never gone a whole day without having at least 1 cigarette. This time around however, l can honestly say that, from the time of giving up, l have not even had 1 puff of a cigarette since, l smoke a pipe now. LOL (JOKE)
I smoked for the full 14 days before my quit day, as l wanted to prepare myself mentally for it. When my quit day came around, l was excited, exhilerated and almost on a high, at the prospect of the challenges ahead of me. I think it was the mental preparation which carried me through. Good Luck again, and come back on here often. :)

Welcome to THE best forum! The people here will help, support, laugh and cajole you if you need it!
There are people on Champix, NRT, CT, cake and chocolate. Or in my case basically anything that doesn't move fast enough!
Best of luck with tomorrow and do let us know how you get on.
Thanks divingdale, i don't feel too bad so far have been trying to keep myself busy, liking the cake and chocolate idea although my waistline wouldn't lol, hope things are going ok for you too x
I am new here too! Don't really understand the site but I'm here anyway! I plan to quit tomorrow - on no smoking day. This will be about my 20th time trying to quit. Have smoked 20 a day for 30 years and now enough is enough. Am going to do it with will power alone but I really need some support. have looked in my area but there doesn't seem to be much help available. I would be best with a support group type thing where you can go to meetings and discuss your success - or failures at smoking cessation. Hopefully this site will help me.

Hi Juliee
Welcome to the boards. This is a great place for support.
I stopped cold turkey and found it much easier to stop than using NRT. Not going to lie to you it can be bloomiing hard but it is SO SO worthwhile.
As for how it works here, we all chat a load of rubbish to each other until none of us want to smoke anymore
Up to you how you want to work it, there are no hard and fast rule of where to post but most commonly, as you quit tomorrow, I would post up a day one thread tomorrow in day one and then take it from there.
There are going to be alot of people about stopping tomorrow so there are going to be lots of people who know exactly what you are feeling and then there are us that are further along down the line to show you that it does get easier and better.
It's going ok thanks, haven't felt too bad have had the odd moments but keeping busy..........my house is going to be sparkling lol, i am determined to keep going i just want to get through the first few days

Hi Julie, Good luck for tomorrow, theres alot of support on here from what i've read, spent quite alot of time reading yesterday and i'm glad i've joined, shame about the support group but i'm sure you'll find here a great support xx
Hope it's going Ok for you Lennie. Have you got some of the lovely sun today where you are? It's helping me to keep positive... can't wait to have a summer that is smoke free.
I've been on a few times before but my offical start day was yesterday! I am also doing it with the aid of champix! So far things have been ok, but I found after dinner last night extremely difficult!!
I also quit with Champix, and that was 3 + years ago now The first few days ARE hard, but every day that goes by, will be that bit easier than the day before Keep your resolve high and stay positive
