Hi, my name's Gemma, I've just joined here and am in my 2nd week of not smoking! Ive been smoking off and on since I was 16 and am in my late 20's now - it's time for me to stop forever this time!
I had my last cigarette on the 10th before I went to bed and put on a patch first thing Tuesday morning. Some days are a lot easier than others, but am getting there and haven't given in yet!!

I'm new here too. I'm in my mid 20's...27 is mid, I hope. I gave up on the 8th at midday, and haven't smoked since. Today my brother dropped his cigs at my house, I found them and was tempted. Kept hearing this voice saying "it doesn't count if you didn't buy them" then all of a sudden another voice saying "No!" so I put them away and resisted. In the tougher moments wait for the voice which doesn't want to go through all this crap again.
I do sound like schizo, hopefully that's just a withdrawal symptom
Best of luck use this forum for support, really helpful supportive people on here.
Great decision to quit in your 20s - I wish i had done so, and I really mean that.
One week done and now in your second - that is excellent progress. You sound calm and determined, which bodes well. Don't forget to post on here, especially when you need support or want to share how it's going.
Lol Biggrin, I might sound calm and determined but Im definitely not today!! Am not going to give in but it's tough. The mornings are definitely the worst time for me, so it's going to pass but it's a challenge.
I know what you mean about the "voices" Duckie, I'm the same sort of arguing with myself about it.
The voices will quieten down the further along the quit you go just be careful though as they do come up with some reasons that at the time seem logical and believable you just have to remember to try and ignore them and keep saying i will not smoke today
it is doable honest i always used to think of those voices as a very annoying spoilt kid and the more i ignored him the quieter he became

Thanks Carol!
I've been saying "maybe I'll have one a bit later" to shut the voices up and it has worked - even though I haven't got any cigarettes in the house any more and I think that the walk to the shop would probably snap me out of it if I did start to give in!!
"Spoilt kid" is about right!! It's like she's up there stamping her foot
Welcome Gemma and Duckie too!!! You've come to the best place to help you along with your quit - everyone is very supportive on here...we may all seem a bit crazy sometimes but there is method in all madness right
Oh!! and if you need advice on how to deal with pesky zombies you have come to the right place.....we got it nailed
Well done on getting through a night out without the cigs
You seem to be on the same path as myself, I quit the night of the Tue 5th Dec, patch on first thing Wed 6th Dec. First night out Sat 15th Dec, no smoke inhaled now for 17 days.
As everybody has said, keep posting, keep reading and most of all keep positive. There is always someone here to chat with, to encourage you, to moan at.
Personally, I am glad that you are here and pretty much doing it the exactly the same way.

Don
Thanks and good luck to you too!!
It was definitely odd going out and not smoking but a good kind of odd.
You're doing brilliantly as well
It's great to have somewhere where people understand how you're feeling and are doing the same thing.
As a patch user, they do give off a certain "fishyish" aroma, that will be the nicotine mixing with the adhesive, plus, unfortunately, sweat, as that part of your skin gets no air to it for the duration the patch is on.
