Just found this forum after Googling question about Champix.
I'm Sally, 46yrs young and live in Leatherhead, Surrey.
I was recommended Champix by my GP after failed attempts with other Nicotine Replacements.
My question to you guys is, i'm literally only on day 2 of the tabs (0.5mg). Yesterdays was fine as i took it around 1pm after lunch, even though it states that its no diff with or after food. This morning i took my second and within half an hour i felt soooooo sick and it has lasted almost up until now, its just wearing off. (3.40pm)
Guess what im asking is, does it get any better? I'm dreading what the blue tabs will do to me. The only good thing is that i havent felt like smoking because of the sickness.
Thanks guys and dont worry i wont let this beat me yet..!

Hi Sally
Don't know too much about champix, but from what I have read here it seems that feeling sick is normal, but many people say that eating before you take it stops this. Hope this helps!!
DO NOT take these without eating, I don't care what it says on the pack the results are horrid as you have found today. Best way to take them is to eat 1/2 your meal then take the table with a glass of water (or milk, juice whatever your choice) and then finish your meal. This massively helps with the sickness.
Well done on deciding to stop the champix will certainly help you with it.
Is it tryng to chew the table that takes your mind off the sickness
Hope Sians tips work for you Sally - let us know how you get on
Thats 2 today, earlier I said I was going to eat my diet book, or something to that effect lol You should have seen me when I first quit, couldn't type for toffee, actually if Toffee had been on offer I would have really tried

Hi Sally,
Levs is right - you absolutely must eat before you take the tablet.
The side effects of Champix can be different for everyone but some are more common than others. There are lots of tips on dealing with the side effects on this forum.
Sorry I did not see your post yesterday; the Champix makes me feel quite ill. I take it about 10 mins after breakfast with a big glass of water. My second pill I took in the late afternoon after food and again with water. There is quite a bit of info on the site about Champix.
I am on day 9 of Champix today, my quit day was yesterday.
All those who said you have to eat are absolutely right. The way I do it is force myself to eat breakfast (cereal and some fruit) at approx 8am and then take first pill at around 9am.
Same procedure in the evening, from experience I have learnt not to take the evening pill too late (8pm at the latest for me), as it messes my sleep patterns up good and proper.
I noticed in the first few days it did what it says on the tin. I hated the smell and taste of ciggies almost from day 1 of taking it.
I'd like to say it gets easier, but for me it didn't. Once I started on the 1mg tablets yesterday, the side effects were noticeably more pronounced and i'm actually considering stopping Champix or maybe just cutting the pills in half
I'm not a doctor though, so take my testimony with a pinch of salt, everyone is different. Go see your GP before making any decisions regarding Champix.
Well its still only day 3 of the tabs and today is slightly easier than yesterday.
I still felt quite sicky when i woke up this morning so took my tab just before lunch (not a real brekkie eater). I feel that it has helped but dreading tomorrow as its then x2
I guess i'll try first thing and then my second at no later than 8pm as my sleep pattern isnt brill at the best of times.
Oh well, onward and upwards, def not smoking as much.

Hi Sally i have been on the champix for nearly six weeks now and i stopped smoking on day 11 of taking the tabs. At first the sickness was awfull but i found that having my tablet straigh after breakfast at 9.30 am and straight after my evening meal helped overcome the sickness. Keep at it hun its worth it in the end.

You have to force yourself to eat brekkie, and then take your champix in a timely manner. It really helps.
Easier said than done I know. I'm not a big brekkie eater either. You need to find something you want to eat - could be anything from hot buttered crumpets lavishly spread with honey, to Lobster thermidor.
Bottom line, get something in your tummy 30mins before you take the pill. Makes life a lot easier.
