Oh Tinks, I am sorry you are feeling low. (((((Big Cyber Hugs))))) for you.
Is it just stopping smoking that is getting you down or is life throwing rubbish at you to??
Whatever it is, you can cope with it!!! And it will get better.
Take care hun, thinking of you.
Sian
Pull yourself together woman and stop being so soft.
I bet there's loads of housework to do or a husband that needs waiting on to take your mind of whatever's worrying you.
Now count yourself lucky i was online to motivate you Tinks
Thank you
Please dont swear at me Pete
Sian, I think it's the smoking + worry. I have to go into hospital for a operation (nothing too major) and it's the thought of being 'knocked' out. I have never had to stay in hospital before and I have never had general anaesthetic and TBH I'm crapping my pants over it all.
I've had me MRSA swabs (the hospital screens patients before they go in) so just waiting on dreaded letter telling me when D day is.
I dreamt last night I was on the operating theatre and being cut up, I know I'm being daft and it'll be fine, it's routine they have done it a zillion times but it's just a worry to me.
xx
Thank you

Awww Tinks, you'll be fine.
I know it's easy to say but i was like you until 18 months ago ie crapping me self, never had an Op in my life but in 18months i've had to have 4 operations and each time i was out cold.
In fact it's great, they wheel you into theatre yapping to you, put something in your arm and the next thing i know i'm waking up in my room, all done.
I understand your concerns and i can't make you not worry but as you know it helps when others have gone through the same and can sympathise.
Aw, Tinks, don't worry to much darl. The general's nothing to get yourself in a stew about. You're out like a light, have some nice dreams, wake up and feel fine. My husband had a minor op on Friday last week, and he was crapping himself about the general, and when he came back to the ward he was like 'what was I worrying about?!?'. He was scoffing sandwiches ten minutes later
Don't let it drive you back to smoking, whatever you do.
((((big virtual hugs))))
Sorry to read that you're having a sh*t day, Tinks.
The thing to do is memorise a joke, a good long one, and start telling it when they administer the anaesthetic...you'll never get to the end. That'll ensure you'll get brought back round
Oh and if you've not eaten hospital food before....take some snacks in

Bless you, good advice has been given. I think it is quite normal to feel afraid of something you have never done before, you did the right thing to come on and say you are worried, sharing it will take the nip out of it. It really will pass quickly, you will be back in the ward before you get time to think and they will be kind and caring to you.
Just think, you don't have to worry about where and when you can smoke and you won't have to go through them telling you how bad it is etc etc.

Morning Tink,
Understand how you feel; went thru it myself on the 21st day; had to go day before WITHOUT FOOD (which near killed me). I kept on trying to log onto this site but my password would not work. I was literally in panic mode.
Chatted with a woman in the waiting room who was a smoker. Prior to surgery, she had to take a puffer AND I DIDN'T BECAUSE I DIDN'T SMOKE ANY MORE. YAY!
I remember lying on the table, doc put needle in my hand, I wanted to tell him it was going numb and the next thing I was awake in recovery. Twas a lovely little sleep. I asked doc if many snore during op and she said yes, but she wouldn't tell me if I did. Gawd - no doubt there I was snoring like a drunken sailor, dribble down my face.
Worry more about the snoring Tink!! Going under is much easier as a non-smoker, which you now are; YAY.
Aww thanks guys, I wasn't sure whether 2 say anything as didn't want 2 come across as wingeing or being daft but it is true a problem shared is a problem halved.
BB - I don't snore but can u imagine if I dribbled - how embarrassing
It's the fear of the unknown but reassurance & tips from you guys has helped so thank you.
And no I won't be smoking, I know that won't solve anything
Oh & not eating for 24 hours wouldn't be such a bad thing for me at the moment
Thanks again

Aw Tinks!
From your last post I see you have cheered up a wee bit which is great
Let me reassure you that its not bad at all. I was having a procedure done which incolved the surgeon having my ankles near my head (that will keep yous wondering lol) you cannot get any more embarrasing than that! Anyway, I had never had a general anesthetic before and was worried about it too. It was the BEST sleep I have ever had and the upside is that smokers usually are woosy after they wake but non-smokers are not.
Good luck, you will be fine and well done for dealing with a fear without a ciggie!

I've never had an operation either (touch wood!) so I get your fear... glad you seem to be less worried after the advice on here and I know everything is going to go just fine
xx
Tinks
I have had about 18 operations (might be more now have lost count lol) and I have never been aware of anything. I quite like being put to sleep now :o, you go all a bit foggy headed, like you are just drifting back to a good dream after waking in the night and poof, out like a light, wake up in a room with a couple of nurses thinking blimey that was quick (and two of mine were 4 hours)
It is scary when you haven't been there before but you will be fine. Butter up the anesthetist to be extra nice to you :D. I have not had a bad experience in all my times in surgery, you'll be fine.
Chin up

Yeah, i've had 5 operations now, including 1 major all-day lifesaver & they're such an anticlimax. You spend weeks worrying, then it's a single needle & you wake up & it's all done. You'll wonder what you were so worried about afterwards.
Couple of weeks recovering with your feet up, milking the sympathy for all it's worth... it's not all bad!
Hey Tinks
Sorry I only just saw this. Hope you are feeling brighter today. Just think of how great you will feel when they ask you if you smoke and how guilty you would feel if you were smoking and lied about it like I have done many times in the past in operations!
