Day 16 and gone off booze - ??????

Hey everyone - how's it going?

I have a question which is really bugging me. I am now Day 16 into my quit and feeling pretty great and much healthier than ever before. However, I have totally gone off alcohol!! When I was a smoker (hey don't that sound good!!), I used to drink every day (each night when I got home I'd pour a glass or two or three of vino) but the thought of it now doesn't do anything for me. Am even going to a party on Saturday night and have offered to drive as dont want to drink.

Anyone know why or can help?

Embo :D

Hi Embo,

Maybe I'm missing something here but surely not fancying a drink is a good thing? Generally people find that having a drink increases their smoking consumption so without the booze, staying off the cigs should be a little easier.

Personally I'd embrace this Embo and not worry about it :).

Hi Embo, I cannot tell you why but I can say that you are not the only one, I also used to like a glass of wine after work with my dinner now I couldnt care less, I have become the designated driver, maybe its a safety measure of the body saying you dont smoke any more so you can lay of the drink till you are used to not lighting up with a drink which is what we all did I think.

See how it goes but when it comes to the crunch you dont NEED either do you so theres loads more money saved to spend on other goodies, clothes, car or hols the list is endless.

Well done on your quit, or should I say quits.

Hi Embo,

Same thing has happened to me. I've gone right off alcohol. My favourite wine tastes like dishwater and the thought of drinking now makes me feel ill.

I'm not complaining though. Means don't have to worry about the empty calories alcohol contains and I've eliminated another bad habit. I was quite a heavy drinker, but I think I used it as an excuse to smoke more telling people who pointed out how much I smoked (40+ per day) that I always smoke more when I drink.

Also, no more hangovers! The pukey feeling I can handle, the depressed "I know I made a prat out of myself/said something I didn't mean" thing always made me feel so low.

Don't worry about not wanting a drink, after all, you'll be even more healthy and financially better off!

Trandem! x
