I´m Vicente. Pushing 61, a pack and a half a day these last 5 years (since I retired). When I worked 2 packs a day wasn´t an unusual thing.
2 weeks on Champix/Chantix and been smoking no more than 3/ 4 a day since I started on it.
But today was my total quit day- and absolute disaster! At times it seemed I WAS fighting against my NOT wanting to smoke! Pathetic.
Bottom line: I wish I could stay for a long time on the medication, POSTPONIG QUIT DAY BUT CARRYIING ON WITH 3/4 CIGS A DAY because I DO think it works and tapers down your cravings and urges significantly. You just need some will power.... which I seem to lack!
Or is it the drug and its mind games? Or is it too early for the Champix to work its effects on whatever makes us want to smoke? Or is it I haven´t the required motivation; even though I fear the risks to y health?.
PS. My excuses for my English. I´m a Spaniard.

Hi Vicente,I think you are being too hard on yourself, you have done great!
If you have cut down to 3/4 a day compared to what you were smoking I think thats something you should be proud of.I think champix works differently for everyone,I have friends who have taken it for a month before finally quitting.Give yourself a bit more time if you need to and I am sure you will get there.Best of luck and the forum is a good place as we are all in the same boat. xx

Thank you Crystal! But the instructions on how to use Champix are so strict.... And I´m afraid that if I don´t follow them more or less literally and set a soon quit date from now on all will be useless..... And those few cigs are starting to taste better tha at the beginning of the process...!!!!
