Tut Tut....just not correct for the upbringing of young ladies...I've heard that in the Brownies and Guides now they are allowed to wear TROUSERS In my day it was a brown dress in the Brownies and a navy skirt and blue shirt for guides...and a hat at all times..

Yep it was cotton brown dress in my days ! I offered to help in my sons cubs but they said I had to wear a unform, I said no so that was the end of it !! I dont like uniform cos of my convent boarding school ( in fact that was where I learnt to smoke ! )

I went to a private catholic school, girls only and we had to wear uniform and go to the small chapel on the school premises every Friday for prayer and catechism :eek:

I was so scared of my mother (who smoked 40 a day) that I did not start to smoke until I was in 3rd year at Uni

I was 13 when I first smoked at summer camp but only really smoked for the month I was there, then lost interest when I was back to school, both parents smoked in the flat and car (I never did that as a smoker!) :eek:
then my best friend and I decided to buy some fags and we started casually, sometimes I nicked fags from my mum's and smoked at my window at home, got caught when I was about 16 :eek: and really got into trouble big time over it, had to swear I wouldn't do it again :rolleyes:
but I carried on and at 17 I confessed and they started buying my fags at the same time as theirs!
I really don't know how I would react if my 14 year old smoked, I'd be furious and terrified I think
I hope seeing me going through the quit makes them think
My closest friend went to an all girls private catholic school. Her parents sent her there to be educated as she was such a 'bright but couldn't be bothered' pupil.
They honestly thought paying would straighten her out and give her some boundaries.
She ended up threatening some Nuns who kept coming on to her, took up smoking and knew where the Sisters kept their whisky bottles.
The Sisters never smelt smoke or booze............. they stunk of it to much themselves

Don't get me wrong Lorna, I was terrified of my mum ... hell, still am! I had to move across the channel!
My Mother comes round to mine twice a week to do my cleaning, washing and ironing.
The night before I run myself ragged clearing up and putting the ironing away from two nights before to avoid being nagged :rolleyes:
My sons and OH know when she's due round and she's no where the nag my father is. My mum has smoked forever. My dad stopped when I was 11 or so.
I started around 15 nearly 16 and my mum knew and would let me smoke in the house but we never told my dad. He never knew I smoked until after i left home at 20. And then, I never smoked in their house again, always outside when visiting or stopping at Christmas.
Hahaha, when I quit in October I owed my mum 120 pounds for baccy she had bought me months before. I finally got round to paying her today. I've not wanted to pay her before now due to the fact that if I did fall off the wagon and ask her to get me some, and still owed all that money, she'd tell me where to go..and whilst owing, I dare not ask. Now I've settled my debt nearly 10 months after last getting some and told her to tell me where to go, should I ask for some.

Oh she charges me and smokes in my conservatory. She's cheap and doesn't do an awful lot to be honest but it gets here away from her house where she can't smoke.
Any thoughts she had of retiring are out the window now my Dad took early retirement. Now, my mum is a real short arse. She's one of 6 sisters and the 2nd tallest at 5'. I was so relieved to get past 5'5"

Mine is borderline OCD, obsessed with tidying up and cleaning, Sundays used to be a nightmare, she wouldn't let me tidy my room but get into hysterics while doing my room
Even now I'm 41, I have to text when I arrive in my hotel when I travel abroad for work and again when I'm safely back in "civilisation" :rolleyes:
She can't believe I am still so untidy even though I'm a mum and thinks I left my hubby because my best mate had :confused:
they both talk to me like I'm 5 and I get tense within a couple of hours of being with them, they always know better than everyone else and know everything :mad:
being back there at Xmas, I'm really surprised I didn't run to the shop and buy 200 fags!!! lol

Mine used to send dad to the attic twice a year to hoover up there and weekly hovver her hot water tank...the weekly clean involved turning the chair on end and cleaning underneath them...
I too have to call home, not text, she does not do texting...it is evi and still tells me time and time again how awful it was for her when I got divorced...how selfish of me not too notice!!!!
If we put all three in a room it could be fun ladies....

Loving these posts (come on Jackie, spill the beans). I tried smoking at 15 in the school holidays, I had horses then and I would ride one down to the beach with a fag in one hand!! I only became a professional smoker at 21!
My Dad was a smoker and gave up at 50 as he was told he only had a couple of years to live if he did not, he is now 72 and going strong.
I'm not close to my parents but I was when I was younger, my parents have never liked the fact DH and I never wanted children. My brother thankfully supplied them with grandchildren, however they did want to write me out of their will in favour of their grandchildren, until I promised to leave everything I own to my brothers children (you all know that's just not going to happen!!:)).
Pol - You can send your mum around to my house sweetheart, anytime.
Christine, reading about your parents and leaving you out of will etc reminds me about an issue I've yet to address and correct with my parents and their will.
You come over as such a cuddly Aunt to nieces/nephews
I'm an only child and any plans I came up with in my teens to bring forward their demise (my folks) were never good enough so I accepted that one day it'll come to me and in the natural time that nature and fate intends.
Last year I'm being updated as to where their wills are and all the necessary paperwork etc, executors etc when they inform me that half is left to me and half to be divided between my two sons :eek:
I was always so caring and genuine when I told them to spend it, they can't take it with them but they firmly believe in leaving something to the next generation. Well that's me, not my kids. I will spend it all and not leave them a single penny.... not now they are getting half of what is mine
I used to love cycling around the country lanes with fag in hand on way to pub. My little saddle bag contained a bone spanner and my papers, baccy and lighter. The perfect took kit

Make sure Pol you leave your kids the money and not your grandchildren! My fathers parents wanted to leave my brother and I money in their will but my mum went mad and stopped them and then she tried to do the same thing.
With parents like ours no wonder we smoked

Mine are dividing everything equally between my brother and I...all good so far but my brother is useless, never phones never visits...him and his family did not even come to my wedding (2 and 3 before you all ask which one!!!!)
If anything is wrong it is me that hot tails it home and takes over...
