Concerns.....

Hi everyone! I've tried all sorts for the past 3 years to give up smoking but nothing seemed to work (patches, gum, inhaler & E-cig). Now I'm trying Champix and I'm on day five of the tablets but there does not seem to be any effect at all so far (apart from the fact that cigarettes seem to taste a bit different). Is this normal? Currently as I am still on the first week I am taking the 0.5mg pills so maybe this just builds up in your system much like antibiotics....not sure really. Hopefully the real effects start to happen when you start on the second week with the 1mg. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Hi PorkChop.

This isn't a route that I personally took. I'd suggest asking your GP or local smoking support nurse (or quit support nurse), a call to discuss. They may be able to assist immediately.

I'm not too sure what Champix does tbh!

Just carry on as you are.

I smoked more whilst on Champix and the fags tasted good, i set my stop date after 10 days on Champix and when i stopped the champix took over and i haven't looked back since.

Good luck. :)

Hi I was only on Champix for a week then came off them. This was nothing to do with Champix I just felt I could manage without it. I did not during that week have any side effects, you and I may just be ones that don't get side effects.

As far as I know it's not all that get side effects it's only some and it's mostly feeling sick but not being sick. That can sometimes be remedied by taking the tablet after food. I'm only passing on what I have read on here but I do know everyone does not get side effects and the ciggys starting to taste yuk is normal.

Good luck with you quit read as much as you can on here and you will find it helps. If you get worried post on here for advice and support that's what we are here for.

I did manage to stop CT and with help on here.

That was how i found it jack, a piece of toast was enough to take the sick feeling away.

I honestly believe that i would never have made it without the Champix

Well done on your quit Jack.

The Road to smoke free is hard without a fagnav

Weird dreams is not the word and not all scary, just make sure you remind your self its only dreams and every withdrawel is different just go with the flow and remember what you do befor bed affects your dream state so soppy books give soppy dreams,

You are doing the bestthing you can do for you self and your health

Good Luck x

Ah but the weird dreams I believe can be fun. If you read some of the posts on here some of the women on here have had some real fantasies with certain film stars, male models etc. The annoying thing is none of the men have come on here and told us of their dreams. I didn't get any:(.

One of my pupils in Pitlochry has stopped completely using Champix and had no problems. Although it did show up a thyroid problem he already had and did not know about but he now has treatment for it. He is doing great and totally off cigs and champix now.

Carpenters mate just want to say thanks and the same to you I believe you are a bit ahead of me but we'll meet in the penthouse one day.

Pork Chop you keep strong and you'll get there.

Jack:)

Thanks for the tip jamangie.

I'll try my best Jack, I just want to be rid of the stinking things now. Thanks again.

Hi Pork chop :)

Day 5 on champix good, you say that nothing has changed for you as yet

apart from the fact that cigarettes seem to taste a bit different yes this is normal and proves that already they're starting to work for you and yes it builds up in your system

Things will really start to change quickly once you start on the higher dose

You'll find you don't want to smoke as much they'll become increasingly nasty tasting, they may even make you feel sick as they did me the last couple of days

Meanwhile relax and live your life as normal while the champix does it's job OK

You'll know when it's time to stop smoking completely promise if you've set as they recommend a quit day and find you want to stop before that then do so we're all different and so are our quits and also how fast or slow the champix works for us

When your body tells you it's time to stop then stop nver mind that you haven't reached the date you set, likewise as some do you may need to go a few days over the set date if so don't worry bout it it will happen

My OH went almost 3 weeks on them and was worried they weren't working the quit nurse had a fit but then overnight he lost the urge to smoke and has now been smoke free fo over a week

Love

Marg xx

I gave up using Champix over 8 months ago. Champix does work you just need to stick with it, i had loads of side effects some horrid some not so bad ( nice dreams....) but after 18 years of smoking a pack a day i am now a non smoker have not had a single puff. believe me the few weeks of side effects are really worth it when you realise you are no longer addicted and the cravings are gone for ever.

so stick with it and a little will power and you will be a non smoker. :p

Hi Pork Chop. Just keep going. The fags will eventually taste awful. The weird dreams are quite good. Night sweats are not so great, but my OH got them and he was CT not Champix. Personally I think this is a wonder drug but only stayed on it for 4 weeks - was all I needed, and I was a very addicted smoker.

Do well - you will be fine.
