Have you put on weight arrgghhh: I have put... - No Smoking Day
Have you put on weight arrgghhh
Majority of people put on weight, doesn't bother me much, have a look Here
Yes... and it sucks
I had my weight under some control and 5 weeks into quit had lost a kilo... (and most of my sanity attempting not to overeat). Porridge really helped. I hadn't eaten it before but it reduces the food craves to some extent.
That was before the temptations of christmas and as of this morning I am 3 kilos up on my pre-quit weight. This is the most weight I have EVER put on over christmas and seems totally out of proportion with what I ate.
I`m not giving up on this battle but it takes some serious self control not to put on weight just when all your self control is needed elsewhere. Quitting smoking is 100 times more important to me than some temporary weight gain but wouldn't it be nice if one of the side effects of quitting was weight loss?
My first post after 2 months
Ali
Quit date: 14 November 2009
Method: Champix, education
Still taking 1 mg of champix a day ( I'm enjoying the dreams)
Smoked 20 a day for 31 yrs
Yup. I put on 10lbs in the first month. I've managed to lose it over the past few weeks with the help of weightwatchers. Hard work tho, cos I've never had to diet before, but vv glad its work. Just got to keep it off now
I have been 11.5 to 12 stone for many years and no matter what I ate it made no difference. Now after 5 weeks tomorrow I am 12.5 stone and to be honest I don't care as long as I don't smoke.

Most of us gain weight, some more than others. I put on 30 lbs! Knew I would when I decided to quit smoking even though I was prepared to watch what I ate, but I also knew that I could only focus on one thing at a time. Quitting smoking was much more important that weight gain. I've always had to watch my weight and exercise my excess off, so now I'm back to exercise and watching what I eat and have lost 15 of the 30 lbs. Everything evens out, it just takes time. Bad part is not having any clothes to fit, lol. Someone told me to give away all my fat clothes when I lost weight so I did! Now that I've gained back --- nothing to wear! Refuse to buy fat clothes! Its lose the weight or never to out!
hiya
its a bugger isnt it this weight gain stuff.
i was pretty stable till a week ago ( 5 weeks in my stop) then suddenly jumped 5 lb over night.... am thinking its a mix of too much drink and inactivity over christmas.
will be getting back on track now back at work...
good luck to us all on here fghting 2 battles at same time
xx
Wow! nothing to wear! Jody the mind boggles what will you do when you go out? I only hope I'm there :D
Any way for now it's keeping off the weed for all of us. I'm lucky because I'm a guy and could use some weight.
Well done everybody on the no smoking, don't worry about the weight that will eventually sort it's self out as you body settles down again.
You're all so lovely, I'm an older man and you would all get my cuddles.

Size 10 to a size 14, 2 stone in 3 months (which did include a cruise and Christmas in all fairness), so I am not happy. I have always been very vain on how I look and what I weigh and it was the reason I never wanted to give up. However I did give up and I did put weight on but hey ho I now must take control.
Interesting to know how much I relied on the ciggies to control my weight though. Anyway back onto the whole diet thing and we set up a 'lardy' or lose weight forum if you are interested:
i think many of us used cigs to keep weight at bay not good so we have to use other methods...
*just about squeezes huge bum into thread*
Me too! I've put on a stone and now I'm trying my best to lose it but I don't seem to be getting any smaller yet. I'm doing more excercise than ever - cos I CAN do more than I could when I smoked, and hopefully it'll work!
Feel free to come and join us in our group (it's called "Smoke Free Porkies and Muffin Tops").
Currently refusing to weigh myself... Trousers tight but after the amount I have eaten and drunk over december that's no suprise! lol
Soon as weather breaks I'll be back on my bike and take up the swimming again.
In the mean time lots of soups, fresh fruit and veg. Cut back on your carbs and what carbs you have make sure they are whole meal, the body struggles with white carbs and most of this gets stored, weight can be lost, lungs dont regenerate so who cares if we all a bit podgy for a while
Think my scales are faulty. And just playing around with uploading photos. Yeah it worked
