Hi everyone, I hope you can all help me to keep off the dreaded fags. After numerous attempts to quit I finally threw them all away last Thursday and haven't had one since. In the past I have tried hypnosis, acupuncture, NRT and nothing worked.
This time I am doing it cold turkey with masses of will power.
Day 3 was terrible really wanted to climb the wall and day 4 seems to be a little better. But the cravings are dreadful! Not sleeping either.
Help please!
Susan

Hey Soosy! Welcome to the forum and congratulations on getting through those first 3 days!
Like you, I tried all kinds of things to help me quit but in the end I did what you are doing, cold turkey..... it was very hard in the beginning but within a month life returned back to normal..... I know that seems a long time away right now (as time seems to stand still in the beginning of a quit) but considering the fact that you will get your life back, it is well worth the bit of pain.
One of the biggest messages you will get on this forum is read, read, read...... learn about your addiction, learn to understand what you are going through each step of the way and what to expect. You have a lot of reprogramming to do and for some reason reading tons helps make that happen quicker. (Check out links in members signatures) Post a lot, ask for support, and in time give support as well. The forum has been a life saver for many.... you are not alone in this!
Day 4 well done by going CT all the nicotine is now out of your system most on here have had more than 1 attempt at quitting
Drinking wayer daft as it sounds really does help with the craves
Below is my standard welcome and advice post which I try and give all new members
Welcome to the forum and well done on the decision to quit possibly one of the most important you will ever make and you will be losing nothing but you will regain control of your life and that has to be good
You will find all the help and support you need on here as we all help each other just like a family we are here for you every step of the way cheering the good days and sympathising with the bad but the good far outweigh the bad
Read the posts on here you will find a lot of tips and advice and in the signatures of a lot you will find links to other sites just click on them
Here are 2 I found very good to start you off whyquit.com and woofmang.com Read read and then read some more as the more you read and learn about why you smoked and about your addiction the easier your quit will be
Thank you everyone. I have already found this forum really helpful and yes it is so wonderful to have support - something I 've never had in the past. This time I have insisted to myself that I will not fail.
The worst bit is thinking that this awful feeling of loss is never going to go away.
30 years of smoking 15 - 20 a day has stopped forever.
The worst bit is thinking that this awful feeling of loss is never going to go away.
That feeling is normal and it most certainly WILL go way..... give it time. You've fed your addiction daily, all day long, and it's disguised itself as a friend..... mourning is part of the process.... keep telling yourself that you no longer wish to be controlled by this 'friend' and that life without addiction will be infinitely better. Hang in there and keep posting!
I will update tomorrow. I feel good that I've now achieved 4 days on cold turkey. Hopefully I'll sleep tonight and tomorrow is another day.
Thank you everyone.
Soosy, well done on being on day 4 that's wonderful. I find when the cravings hit I have to do something, walk, have a bath but just do something. Lollipops have been a life saver, so go and buy some.
