Hi all

I'm glad to have found this site, as I'm hoping I can kick this habbit for once and for all. I'm 33 and and need to quit asap. I have pretty much tried everything to quit, like patch's, gum and cold turkey, and I have managed to go 3 months but for some reason i fell of the wagon. I wanted to know if hypnotherapy actualy works? and is there anything else out there which can also help.

Thanks

Hi Vantage! Welcome to the forum..... I am actually a great believer in hypnotherapy...... but I feel it really only works well if you are truly determined to quit. I'm saying this because I went to a hypnotherapist quite a few times but my smokes were waiting for me in the car..... needless to say I smoked them right after my sessions

I think also some people's thoughts/believes are more easily changed..... my ex quit smoking and he read Allen Carr.... it sufficiently 'hypnotized' him and he has been quit for over 6 years. I always wished for a quick fix like that but I wasn't so lucky..... However, I purchased a hypnosis cd and although it seemed to not help me much the first 3 weeks, it did calm me tremendously after that.

Of course I also think it depends on the therapist.... if he/she comes recommended I don't see why one shouldn't try it :)

Good luck to you! Others will come on tomorrow to recommend other strategies.... Champix being one of them I'm sure. What helped me 'stay' quit so far has much to do with this forum so I highly recommend it :)

Hi Vantage, Not sure what to suggest, because different methods work for different people... Patches have worked for me, but u have to still have will power whatever method u use...

But good luck whichever method u choose... Kaz :p

Hi Vantage :D

Welcome to the forum and well done on the decision to quit possibly one of the most important you will ever make and you will be losing nothing but you will regain control of your life and that has to be good

You will find all the help and support you need on here as we all help each other just like a family we are here for you every step of the way cheering the good days and sympathiseing with the bad but the good far outweigh the bad

Read the posts on here you will find a lot of tips and advice and in the signatures of a lot you will find links to other sites just click on them Here are 2 I find very good to start you off whyquit.com and woofmang.com Read, read and then read some more as the more you read and learn about why you smoked and about your addiction the easier your quit will be

I'm sorry I don't know anything about hypnotherapy or whether it works but I expect someone on here will

There are lots of aids out there to help you apart from the ones you've already tried, champix,Zyban, inhalors to mention but a few so go see your Dr/Nurse for advice on it

Post often to let us know how you're doing, to rant, rave have a moan whatever you like pretty much anything goes on here OK

Best Wishes

Hi

Thanks for all your help and tips,

I have been trying to quit smoking for a while know but nothing seems to work, It’s much harder to quit then non smokers think.

I just thought hypnotherapy might work and wanted to know other people’s experiences to see if it actually works, as on some hypnotherapy

Websites they offer 100 % success rate which I’m not too sure about, adding to that there seems to be hundreds of hypnotherapists to choose from, does anyone know

Of any good ones in Manchester, I would not mind even travelling to London if it means I would stop smoking.

Again thanks everybody for you help,

Hi Vantage

I remember that feeling of being desperate to find something that would make me stop smoking, in the end I found this forum and I did have patches for a few weeks. There are lots of ways to get help most of which you have mentioned, but the best help, I believe, is if you are able to set your mind to believe the truth about smoking rather than what we have believed. The links in the signatures on here to sites help me to understand the addiction to nicotine and the people here are caring and helpful all the time. We are all going through similar experiences so we definitely can help each other.

Good luck.

Jackie
