Hi everyone

Im new here, my name is Matt and I am 24 years old. On average I would say I smoke around 20-30 :( cigarettes a day.

I have decided that tomorrow (Friday) is going to be my 1st day as a non smoker. I have 5 left in my pack which i will space out through the rest of today.

I hope you guys can help because I have tried patches / gum with no results. So I guess its down to good old willpower!.

Hi Matthew,

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your decision to quit.

Tomorrow will be a good day, because you will not be smoking. And yes, good old willpower is the essential ingredient. Other things can help, but at the end of the day (and the beginning of the next one:)) it's iour choice, your decision and youyr determination not to smoke that will be key.

Stay strong, and all the best for tomorrow.

Deke

Matthew, welcome to the forum. Will power is important in your quit, but also education. Read everything you can on nicotine addiction. The more you know the easier quitting will be. There are 3 good links at the bottom of my post. They will help your mind set (will power). Keep going. Remember you choose not to smoke. You are not loosing anything by quitting, but gaining health, wealth, freedom, and most important life!

Thanks everyone for your replies and support.

I dont know if this is a regular habit in smokers but I always have a cigarette when I am on the phone, I am self employed and some phone calls can get stressfull. Did anybody else do this? I think that will be one of the things I will find hardest to break.

Hi Matt :D

Yep I always had a fag when on the phone and it will feel funny at first not having one,I kept calls as short as possible to begin with though it really didn't take long for it to be natural not to smoke on the phone
