I've put this off time and again, but now is the time to do it. And succeed.
I have smoked for more than 30 years. That sounds terrible, just writing that! About 15 years ago I gave up for about 3 years. I have convinced myself that it was easy and that I could quit again anytime I wanted to. But despite a few half-hearted attempts I have continued to smoke and failed to quit. That changes now.
For the last few days, prompted by No Smoking Day last week, I have been thinking and reading. This Forum looks and feels so supportive.
At the moment I feel good about the decision. I have a reasonably stress-free weekend ahead (if you don't count the 6 Nations matches!) and the time just feels right.
Wish me luck for a smoke-free future...

Yes its very supportive here and an excellent place to come and vent if needed.
Sounds like you are very determined, and make sure you look upon gaining (health, control, money etc) rather than making a great sacrifice.
Knowledge is power, have a browse through the links in my signature for more info on nicotine addiction and what to expect while quitting as well as some inspiration.

Hi, Deke, and welcome to the forum. Everyone here is very supportive. We are all in the same boat. Sounds like you have your mind set in the right place. Keep reading. I really think that's what made my quit easier. The more you know the better off you are. I'd wish you good luck, but don't think you'll need it. Let us know how your weekend goes.
Thanks for all the support. It really helps knowing that there are so many others going through this too.
Day 2 of my quit begins at 1pm. Last evening was quite tough, i was shaky and a bit irritable. But got through it.
Thanks for the pointers to other sites and information. very useful. Nic, I am looking at the positives I hope. its hard not to think of it as a sacrifice, but I am focussing on the benefits particularly health improvements.
I'm a keen rugby fan, and though I'm a bit Irish and a bit Scots, I'm all England!! looking for improvements from last weeks thrashing of the French.
As I say, thanks for ALL the supportive comments, they are much appreciated. I'll check back here later on.
