My 2nd Day :)

I am really pleased to be here on my 2nd day- sounds like such a small step, but i could never imagine going without a smoke for over a whole day! (isn't that silly!)

I am wearing a patch.. I don't see it as cheating, as if it helps me quit, and stops the habits I have( like smoking in the car etc) then it has to be a good thing.

I am getting a lot of the 'hollow chest' feeling this morning, but clean something every time i feel the 'crave'!

I shall soon have the cleanest house in the street!

No, not silly at all. On day 1 you take what your body thinks is normality and turn it upside down. You choose not to do something you are so used to, it's almost as automatic as breathing. Your body is so used to the poison that it actually has created more red blood cells and more receptors in your brain to compensate. Your body has a totally different chemical make up than a non smoker. All of a sudden you choose not to put those chemicals in and it takes a while for your body to get back to a non smokers version of normality. At the moment it thinks what is happening is bad - very bad.

You know different though, and you know that if you just keep going then it will start to know a different normal.... a better one.

Nothing is cheating if it gives you the control you need to make the decision not to smoke for today. Tomorrow, if you need it.... then that's fine too.

Distraction is great. During the early days and weeks, I walked miles. Just doing something I didn't normally do seemed to make a difference.

You are doing superbly, honestly. :D

All you have to do, is exactly what you're doing.... it's working.

  • Hi Minne :D

Well done day 2 already and being here on your 2nd day is not a small step it is a huge step forward

can't really add to what Stuart has said so will just say

    Good Luck

  • Well done on making it to day 2:)

NRT(imho) is not cheating. I used it and it helped me big time.

Whatever works for the individual is all that counts:o

  • Well done. I agree its not cheating. It worked for me too. If it helps you mentally prepare then thats brilliant.

  • Welcome to the Forum,

As everybody else has stated...it's not cheating! Whatever works for you is the main thing to hold onto. If, further down the line you change your position....well again that's your perogative.

Stuart has given you really useful information about the changes that will be happening in your body as it reverts back to normality. Have a look at the sites in various members sigs and you will get a lot more information which you could find very useful.

Congrats and you are doing really well,

    Cav

  • Keep going!! I am also on day 2 as well, going cold turkey. I have recently moved from London to Zurich (5 months ago), where my smoking habit has just got out of control. Cigarettes are half the price than in England and smoking is allowed in all bars and restaurants. So found that I was smoking twice as much.

Feel pretty confident at the moment though, but keep looking forward to having a cigarette, then I realise I dont smoke anymore and immediately feel a rush of dissapointed, that there is not that little thing to look forward too every hour.

I guess this is what addiction is, having to deal with the fact that there is no longer that little thing to look forward too. I guess in time it becomes less and less of something you would regard as `looking forward too' but hopefully something quite disgusting and revolting.

    All the best

    Phil:rolleyes:
