Does any one feel they are losing their best friend?

Hello, I have quit smoking four days ago and finding it really tough. I know about the health and financial implications to smoking but I dont think that is enough to keep me going. I feel as if I have lost my best friend. Day to day life feels boring and lonely. Is this normal? Will it pass? Or is my life from now going to feel like this ?

Hi Deborah

What you are experiencing is completely normal and will pass real soon.

Just hang in there and be strong, read this link, it will make you look at your friend the cigarette in a different light, really helped me when i was struggling with the feelings you are having atm.

Good luck

Hi:)

I did the first two quits but this time I don't.

now Its like getting rid of a leech on my health and pocket,I feel free and I know that nicotine was no friend of mine;)

I would read as much as you can about the psychological affects of smoking, with education you will feel just the same about smoking,I promise.

Keep strong and read,read,read.

Good luck.

Hi Deborah :)

Welcome and well done for deciding to quit

it is entirely normal and will pass very soon I promise it will get better and there is always someone on here to help and encourage thats what we are all on here for we help each other over the rough bits and cheer the good and it won't be long before you have more good than bad bits this is a great place and the more you read the better you will find it

Good Luck

Margaret

Hi Deborah,

Yes it is entirely normal - I first came upon this forum on Day 4 of my quit for exactly the same reason as you! I am now on day 15 (it probably seems miles off to you at the moment), and you can also do the same thing if you stick with it and keep reading on this forum. Annie xxx

Yup, same for me too. Went through a period of mourning for my little white friends.

I hate the festering things with a passion now (into fourth week of quit). Your sadness will pass, good luck with the quit!

As everyone else says its perfectly normal. Stay strong - the feelings will eventually pass. Keep jumping into the forum - it really helps

I was reminded of a song I loved a few years ago... "Don't speak" by the band "No Doubt"...

I've changed the lyrics a bit to fit (but surprisingly, not much) :D

----------------------------------------------------------------

You and me

We used to be together

Every day together always

I really feel

I'm losing my best friend

I can't believe

This could be the end

It looks as though I'm letting go

And if it's real

Well I don't want to know

Don't speak

I know just what you're saying

So please stop explaining

Don't tell me 'cause it hurts

Don't speak

you know what I'm thinking

I don't need your reasons

Don't tell me 'cause it hurts

Our memories

They can be inviting

But some are altogether

Mighty frightening

As we die, I'm sayin bye

With my head in my hands

I sit and cry

Don't speak

I know just what you're saying

So please stop explaining

Don't tell me 'cause it hurts

Don't speak

you know what I'm thinking

I don't need your reasons

Don't tell me 'cause it hurts

It's all ending

I gotta stop pretending who we are

You and me

you won't see me dying ... are we?

Hush, hush, darling

Stu, when you reach the penthouse post the vid of your "little dance" to YouTube I think it would be a good idea to have you performing this song too, :D:D

Doing a silly victory dance for the world to see.... yes. Singing, no!

I stand by my (rather hasty) decision to post my milestone celebration dance on YouTube when I do it to celebrate 1 year.... but no singing!!!!

LMAO.

Do what ya like.

:D

Anyway, back on topic... yes, it is easy to feel lonely without your constant companion by your side. But you soon make new freinds that don't want to kill you.

Thanks for the messages of support.

Thanks everyone for those messages yesterday. The links in particular made me feel like I wasn't going mad. Feeling a little less sorry for myself today and I even forgot about smoking for about ten minutes when Iwas reading the newspaper. Only problem is, if I get through this I will have to join a support group for chewing gum addicts! I am going through packets.

I also went through mountains of chewing gum for the first few weeks. I used to chew it while I went for a walk to distract myself.

I was concerned I would end up with a jaw to rival David Coulthard :D .... but nope, I simply used less and less as the need to distract myself diminished!

There will be days when you feel sorry for yourself, but in general the trend will be that it gets gradually easier.

It's not very often I will say this, but my Mum's right... I can't sing to save my life.

Even the littlun tells me to stop when I start singing along to the telly :(
