A year today I came on this site looking for inspiration and I found a lot of people who were in the same boat as myself. We were all fed up with smoking. It was great talking with people that understood what I was going through. After a few days and weeks I used to get slightly demoralised when I read stuff from long term quitters that they were still craving a cigarette months down the line.In my personal opinion that is utter bullshit. They have either forgot what a craving was like or tend to exaggerate everything.Of course I used to fancy a cig now and again but it was no worse than remembering the taste of a chocolate bar thats been discontinued. Its just a fleeting thought, nothing more nothing less.
So for all of you just starting on your quit you will find that after a few weeks that it gets surprisingly easy but its very important that you are quitting for yourself and that you are 100% committed.
Good luck all
Phil.

Well said Phil - I am approaching 4 months without any nicotine and I can honestly say I haven't had a crave for about 6 weeks.
I have had many flash thoughts which have caught me slightly off guard - So much so that many times I didn't even realise what it was I wanted straight away!
However, as you say - these are easy to dismiss and move on.
Congratulations again on 1 whole year successfully quit!
Those in the early stages, my personal opinion is that some ex smokers like to dramatise the fact that they have quit and turn it into a much bigger deal than it actually is. These are the people who will tell you they "crave" rather than "fancy" a smoke after all those years.
Don't let it bother you, and keep going - it really is worth it.
Well done Phil on getting to a Year, you are an inspiration.
Thank you also for the information in your post, when you read that people are still craving ciggys after 5-6 months it has made me think 'oh my god when does it get better', scared in fact that i have months to go before the cravings disappear. Your post has enlightened me and made me feel a whole lot better.
