Nice to meet you all. Call me Sothem. Smoking almost killed me after only two years. I started smoking when I was 16 and was in hospital for the best part of a year when I was 18, all exclusively thanks to smoking. So if you need someone to talk to, someone has experienced the bad side to smoking, feel free to mesage me.

Hey

My method was experiencing one of the worst things to happen from smoking. Imagine having a tube the size of a hose pipe put through ur back, ur rips borken so it can go through and pierce your chest wall. While conscious and because it had to be done so quickly to allow me to breath the anesthic barely worked. Followed by another an hour later through your airpit into your chest and that was just day 1.

I'm hoping by sharring my experiences I can help others to quit by making them face what could happen if they don't.

Also in one of the many hospitals I was in, I was in a High Dependancy ward. Out of the 24 patients in there I was the only one without Lung Cancer, but we were all there for the same reason. Smoking. The youngest was 15 and she had Lung Cancer for the second time.

howdy

Kind Off. I have been fine for a while now. After the whole ordeal in and out of hospital it took me about another 6 months to build up strength and things. However I have been redmitted twice in the last two years for related issues. Nothing serious.I can do almost everything apart from diving or climbing a Mountain and have to go for a load of checks before I fly.

Plus when I do fly you should see the cost of insurance. Not nice.

WOW that is an alarming story, can you tell us more about what you were diagnosed with?

What It Was?

It's really hard to try and explain. But basically, you know that in cigarettes as well as the main ingredients there are over 1000 more in very small quanities. Well basically over the time that I smoke, one of these chemicals had built up in my body and my immune system tried to remove this. It did this by reacting around the chemical in a kind of like blister form. So basically my lungs covered in blisters, and each time one burst it would leave a hole in my lung. So with each breathe more air went into my lungs, then out through the little hole, slowly filling up my chest cavity with air. Meaning that my lungs got smaller and smaller. The problem was when one was fixed another would go and so on. Thats kind of the rough idea.

Wow, Sothem, just read your story by visiting the link in one of your previous posts. Talk about going through hell and back! Your story has really moved me and at the moment words escape me. Enough to say that I'm glad you pulled through and my fervent hope is that you will not have to go through all of that too often, if at all.

scary stuff...

but a good thing to read if anyone is in any doubt as to the wisdom of quitting...

hope things are sorted for you now and that you never have to go thru anything like this again...

good luck for everything...:)

Recovered

I'm back as close to full health as possible now. Missing quite a bit of my left lung and unable to go diving or fly over certain heights but you could never tell by looking at me.

I hope it does help people realise what could happen. Plus the amount of people I met in hospital who were there because of smoking is huge, I dread to think where some of them ended up.
