Hi Dawn

I am roughly in the same point of my quit as yourself. I'm stil on champix though albeit a reduced dose a I am Tapering Off over several. I too have odd moments when a cig seems really appealing but then I think of how long I've done w/o them and nothing bad has happened to me so therefore life DOES go on after quitting. I also think that it MUST get easier otherwise noone would stay quit in the first place and there are milions of ex smokers about.

Yes it will go but you must never be complacent.

There are many who've gone back on the fags after years off them, so it could even be called silly to think it might not happen.

Like a boy scout you need to be prepared. You need to have your own system of coping with that inevitable temptation.

I was at an xmas do on Friday chatting to two ex-smokers of 15 years. One never gave it a moment's thought the other fancied a fag regularly.

Everyone's different, find a diversion, a sweetie, a thought that works for you.

;)

Dawn... I'm in the same boat as you. 14 weeks yesterday without a cig. Never managed 14 days before in over 30 years. The Champix worked but now sometimes I feel... ok, the game's over... I gave it my best shot.

I'm a single parent of 3 boys aged 18, 12 and 7. At times I lose my temper, especially when they're messing after I've had a hard day at work. I'm hanging on but its not getting easier. I tried St Johns Wort but it did nothing only taste disgusting. I'm adamant I'm stopped for good but I know it still could take just one lame excuse to start back. Hold on tight... thats what I'm doing..

and who the hell needs to hear that????????!!!!!!!!!!!

I think your looking at it from the wrong perspective. To me thats a positive.

It made me think to aspire to be the former (never gave it a moments thought).

I'm sure we all know people like the two austin mentioned.

I gave up for three years and never looked back

If you gave up for 3 years and never looked back I think you might need to revise your quit date???

Please do not patronize and talk down to me. Whilst I fully acknowledge your comments , your expression of them rather lacks!

'Bull' and 'China shop' springs to mind.

Hi Dawn n Karen.

Well done both of you... I'm a few weeks in front stop wise and still feeling shite at times.... just taking the pain daily.:D:D Good luck over the next fortnight and excuse condescending comments... your patience is like mine...;)

Boudee my friend... you've given me good advice on more than one occasion, helped others overcome their problems so don't let anybody get to you. We all feel stressed at times and its far easier to ignore a comment than retaliate.

Never stop being addicted to cigs

I agree with what others have said here. You never stop being an addict. I smoked for about 17 years, until 1986, when I finally quit. I didn't smoke another cigarette until about 1997, then I tried them again and it was as if I had never stopped. I have finally quit again, in 2007, which is about 10 years after I picked the habit up a second time.

The lesson for me is this. It will never be easy. It will never be over. I will have to be vigilant until the day I die. It's just the way it is, and I shall have to live with it...

Which I am fully prepared to do, because I've decided to quit and there are no ifs, ands, or butts about it.

It does get easier, but occasionally the odd pang will surface.

Never lasts long though. :)

Dismiss it and get on with life.:)

Good luck.:)

I am surprised at this stage at how strong the remaining urges to smoke are, but I think we get so used to dealing with them that it must get better and better until it is second nature or automatic to not do it. As you say, it is still pretty easy to just not go out and buy some - we just need to "keep passing the open window".

Anyway, like you, I'm having up days and down days still, but the ups are definitely much more frequent though I guess with the initial sense of acheivement at having done it wearing off they are just not quite so "up" as we level out into normailty!
