    You are doing great Hoot!

I do 10 hour night shifts at work sometimes, and it was on one of these shifts that I caved and started again, I find them soooo hard with the cravings for some reason.

Well Done You Hoot, you absolute star!!

Have a good one tonight!! :)

  • Unbelievably I did

I always knew apart from the obvious nicotine cravings and psychological triggers drinking would be a problem as a none smoker. I HATE the taste of alchoal and drink very rarely. When i do drink its never more than 2 except one in a few months when i get PISSED. When i do get pissed i think nothing of smoking 20+ fags to help me with the taste of the drink. Last night i got pissed at home so it was easier but the temptation to smoke was unbelievable. I forgot so many times i was a non-smoker but i never picked a fag. What i did to combat the taste of the russian vodka (urgh) was boil up rybena cordial and sip it everytime i had a shot. The funny thing is, this was almost subconsious i didnt think "oh what can i do to get rid of the bad taste in my mouth" i just did it. No ive kinda sobered up and would like to apologise for my drunken post. what i meant was that yesterday was a major smoking trigger for me and rather than not drink be rude and go bed early like the normal advice suggests i decided to takle it head on so that trigger doesnt have the power i did on me. I can now say that i can enjoy a drink without a fag and can be more social with my smoking friends (ive been avoiding them all week) However i am under no illusions about the mountian i still have to climb. I probably wouldnt have managed to do that in a club and know i have to limit the amount i drink now but thats cool cus im not a big drinker anyway. All in all this a great hurdle that i have crossed :D

thanks Marg. I think quitting will be easy for me once i get past day 21. I didnt miss fags at all really, I used the easy quit method, which is similar of what I read in one of your links.

I didnt start back smoking fags because of a craving really, It's because I had a really bad break up and I gave up on doing anything good for myself - I just didnt care anymore.Life just seemed pointless. That mindset only lasted a month or so but when I realized that I was killing myself to prove a point, i was already caught in the nicotine dependency trap.

Im on Day 4..having sleep problems and extremely irritable, but it wasn't so long ago that I cant remember how short this part of the quit is. it seems like forever but its really plain sailing after the first 3 or 4 weeks.

here is to a quit that was as easy as my last one and this time for good. :D

    Hi DT :D

I really hope you have an easy quit once you get through the first 21 days as well but well done you on day 4 that's a great start for you anyway but the sleep problems and being irritable are normal as you may well know and they pass fairly quickly for most of us

I'm sorry that a bad breakup sent you back to the fags before at a guess I'd think your weren't far into your quit when it happened and I know just how hard that can be to cope with I alsp know how pointless life can seem at times like that but of course we mostly get over those type of things given time

I really hope this quit qill be smooth for you but yell if you need/want help for whatever reason there' always some one around on hear ready to listen, help support whatever you need us for we'll try and help if we can Promise

thanks bab. actually I had quit for 16 months when I started again. it wasn't like I saw fags as a crutch to fall back on or anything..i just didnt care anymore and was doing every foolish destructive behavior i could think off.

once I got past 3 months I didn't even consider smoking a fag for any reason no matter how stressfull the situation. Its weird to explain but I know that once im out the danger zone, I wont have any further problems staying quit this time. I know how easy it becomes further down the line, its just dealing with the nicotine dependence and withdrawal for the first few weeks.

    Hi DT :D

That was a long time quit before you relapsed and just goes to prove how strong this addiction is that we all have I think

I can understand that feeling of not caring anymore what happens to you I've been there and experienced it many years ago now but I still remember that feeling and how destructive it can be although thankfully I've never had it since

I also once I hit 3 months or so didn't even consider a fag and as you know how easy it gets further on I'm sure you won't have to many problems this time around

As you say it's just the first few weeks that can be really hard but we'll all be here if/when you need us Promise
