Hi there.

Anyone else feeling utterly knackered and weirded out from taking champix? Am 4 weeks in, not smoked for more than 2 but have felt better to be honest. Have approx. 8 more weeks of this, does it get easier?

Hi PIP, I don't know much about champix either but a lot of people here have shared their experiences about being precisely knackered and weirded out from time to time esp at the beginning, but then from what I gather the champix really starts to kick in and be pretty helpful, there are also some tips people who use it might give you in order to help you improve its benefits. Congrats on quitting :)

Sorry Pip I completely missed your post. I've been taking champix for a month now(am on day 21 of my quit) When I first got the champix I was a little woried about the nausea I'd read so much about (dont do sicky feelings well!)however I make sure I take each tablet after a meal. Cereal first, then champix. I try to take the evening pill at about 6pm (so as not to disturb my sleep too much) Again eve meal first, then the champix. Always make sre you have a full 1/2 pint of water or so when you take the tablet. This stops the sicky feelings too. The only side effect I noticed was a slight headache but that was only in first week. It was soon sorted out with a couple of paracetamol. The thing I really like about the champix is that for the first time in 25yrs I can wake up of an am and NOT crave a cig. Even when I've quit b4(lots of times!) I've always found that the morning is the worst part(patches, gum, hynotherapy) This stuff is amazing though don't you think? How long did you smoke for pip?

Hi All.

I was online very briefly yesterday but didn't get chance to reply. I read all your posts though and really appreciate all the encouragment. Its actually getting a little easier with the sleepiness now, can manage to take it during the day, was nearly falling asleep at my desk at work over last few weeks. Seem to be getting more cravings now (novelty has worn off :)) but my attitude has changed, cravings are bad and don't feel great but the automatic solution now is not 'a cigarette will make everything better' its more 'cigarettes have caused this, they are awful things'. Its not the easy solution now to have a quick smoke and i'll feel fine again and sod the consequences, Its an attitude of 'its crap for now but i can deal with this'. Its like the option isn't even there to do it now.

I smoked since i was 17 (am 26 now), 20 a day (unless i was out, then 40 easy) proper cigarettes until about 2 years ago, then roll-ups. I managed to quit from September last year to April using lozenges, then (surprise, surprise!) went on holiday and started again. Since then a few attempts using lozenges that have lasted no longer than a week till my friend recommended champix. I don't like to take any prescription drugs for anything and only reassurance from my very nice and helpful smoking advice-lady and a decision that I really really wanted to quit for good made me think - what the hell i'll try it. Glad i did. Despite sleepiness, nausea like you wouldn't believe, weird dreams and disrupted sleep and other erm..tummy troubles i haven't smoked for weeks! I can walk up hills and not be knackered! I have more money! I don't have to stand outside in the rain with my hood up feeling like an idiot! My boyfriend and mum are totally proud of me! Best of all, i'm really really proud of myself! :)

Hi All.

Despite sleepiness, nausea like you wouldn't believe, weird dreams and disrupted sleep and other erm..tummy troubles i haven't smoked for weeks! I can walk up hills and not be knackered! Hi Pip, I too am on Champix and on Day 14 today :D, although I have suffered a lot with the nausea no matter how I take the tablet ... after food, before it, in the middle, loads/little of water taken with it ... anyway on my usual check up tonight ... see the nurse at the GPs ... she suggested that I drop to the half dose i.e. 0.5mg twice a day instead of 1mg twice a day, she mentioned that quite a few of her patients have had the same trouble and found that the half dose still works with the cravings etc. but no nausea, so here's hoping! I take the evening tablet about 7pm-ish, after tea, and so far have found that it hasn't disturbed my sleep.

My brother also stopped with Champix (now 14 weeks for him!) and found that he didn't get any nausea but really weird dreams, disturbed sleep and a dry mouth but admitted he was taking it last thing at night so changed it to tea time and he slept fine after that. He's off the tablets completely now and has not thought about a cigarette since.

So keep strong and maybe have a chat with your smoking advice lady if the side effects are getting a bit much. But must admit I've been singing Champix praises to all who'll listen cos think they're BLOODY MARVELLOUS :D:D.
