Hi,

This is my umpteenth quit attempt. I'm serious about quitting, but I know how easy it will be to smoke again, so for now I just hope to be in the day 2 forum tomorrow.

Good fortune be with us all.

Don't hope!

Don't try!

Decide and do it! We're here with you.

Everytime you crave a cigarette and resist you breaking free of the routine and the nicotine that has controlled you for so long!

Get excited about the freedom you now have!

Congratulations on your decision.

Thanks, Diablo.

I have to be honest, I'm not very confident about this. Does that mean I'm doomed to fail? I don't think so, but I'm feeling a bit low at the moment. I know that quitting can be exciting, and I'm expecting to bounce sooner or later. Sorry to come on here being miserable, your encouragement is very welcome!

It's an interesting thing, confidence and I wouldn't say that a lack of means that you are doomed to failure.

However, (sorry to all those who have heard me say this time and time again) it is all down to DECISION. There is a huge difference between WANTING to be a non smoker and DECIDING to become a non smoker.

"I want to stop smoking" vs "I have decided I will stop smoking" Which sounds more likely to achieve? I think it's pretty obvious, to be honest.

I think you have to decide, that is the only way. Only you know for sure whether you have a want or have made a decision. However, it seems by your actions that you have made a decision and are sticking to it.

You have my respect!

I know how difficult the early stages are because it is so easy to slip back into a routine. "I've been doing this for so long, so I might as well continue." That's the thing about ROUTINE and NICOTINE. I'm still not sure which is the bigger culprit of the two - but I *do* know that they play some part and are someway responsible for your addiction.

You are doing the right thing by taking it an hour a time at the early stages. I am immensely proud of you for doing this because I know it is such a hard thing to do. But you can do it. You really can. So many people here have gone before you and will support you along the way with your decision. It isn't an easy path to tread, but then the things that are most rewarding seldom come easy.

The cravings will pass. You've already suffered cravings and laughed in the face of them! And how easy it was to do so too! And in reflection, how little effort too!

In fact, this is actually quite a strange thing because when you've gone for an hour without smoking, and you look back, with regards to effort it will only seem like a second! And when you've gone for a day, the effort seems like only a minute and yet when you've gone for a week as a non smoker, the effort seems only like a minute! Think what all that time without smoking has done to improve your health! What else can you do in your life with SO LITTLE EFFORT that will have SUCH A POSITIVE EFFECT!

At the risk of showing bad form and quoting myself for a second time (Sorry!) take a look at this thread: nosmokingday.org.uk/forum/s... I have attempted to describe some of the decisions, programs and fears that go hand in hand with what you are going through right now.

Congratulations once again on your actions, my friend. Keep us updated with your quit.

Thanks for your thoughtful and encouraging words. I'm struggling to form much in the way of a coherent reply, but I think I've absorbed some of your ideas. The time when just wanting to stop smoking was enough has definately passed for me. It needs to happen, I have some resolve.

I'd like to wish you all the best for your own quit.

I'm sorry to say I choked again. Thanks for trying to help. I will keep on trying to quit. Your support is not wasted, I'll not be smoking today as I have not brought any money to work. I cannot be trusted, so have imposed this restriction on myself.

Fortune be with you all.
