Day5 ...help me please

Hey there. Im 30 years old and have been smoking for 14 years...about 15 roll ups a day. I have never ever gone a day without fags and have never tried to give up.

I am very stubbon so that might help me.

Im getting a real urge to have a ciggie...and also to poke several people i work with in the eye to relive the masses of pent up anger.

What can i do??

I really really want to give up and live longer and improve my life quality.

Does anyone have any tips.....and how long will i feel like i want to beat someone up for?? im normally the most laid back person in the world...

help!!!!

Hello there,

firstly - congrats on making the best decision of your life. You know that you want to stop, that's the main thing - now it's just a matter of keeping positive for the next few weeks until you know you've cracked it.

Are you using any form of nrt? If so, are you at the right level?

You also have to remember that people and situations (esp at work) p*ssed you off when you smoked and still p*ss you off now - it's nothing to do with the nicotine. So often we think we were laid back when we were smokers but actually they're one of the most pent-up groups around!

Can you get away from the situation for a while - go into the stationery room, or even just the toilet. Have a minute to yourself and take some deep breaths. Write down the things that are annoying you most at the moment - whether that's 'I want to smoke' or 'my boss is a stupid *rse'. Write it down then rip it up.

The first few days really are the worst and by day 5 you're doing so so well. Stick with it!

Hang in there Marcus ... you're doing so well :)

These horrible feelings seem to launch in from nowhere .. but suddenly you realise they've gone away and didn't get the better of you.

Ignore everything else and keep your eyes glued to this forum .. it really does help.

Take care and I hope you are feeling a bit better now :)

Ali

Hi Marcus

It will get easier as time goes on.

Just hang on in there.

It is the best thing that you could ever do for yourself, and is worth it without a doubt.

Just take it one day at a time.

Keep it up:)

Maybe best to do this one when people aren't looking at you or they might think you're a bit odd.... get the hand that used to be your smoking hand, put it in front of your face and smell it really hard. Nothing!! By day 5 there's probably not a trace of that stinky old ashtray smell. I don't know how long your hair is but if it's long enough to get in front of your nose then do the same with that. Take a lovely, big deep breath and then smile at how good you smell.

(Ok, I know I'm weird but it worked for me!!)

CONGRATS!!!!!!! Good work and keep it up. You are doing great. Deep breaths and keep busy. Chew some gum or pop in a hard candy. Have a cuppa or some fruit juice. Keep going ~ you are a star!
