Hello everyone can i join you on the dizzy heights of month2

well pleased start week six 2morrow.

Buffy have you been busy with the little angels, havent seen many post from you lately.

Yesterday went out with my daughter ex wife & mother in law did a bit of shopping, popped into costa for coffee sat outside and my ex wife was puffing away and it didnt bother me at all, she is so impressed with how well i have done that she is going to have a go with the champix.

Today day34

Managed to get up to go to the gym this morning and i was absolutely distraught when i weighed myself i have put on another 2kg, and that is while going to the gym and trying to watch what i eat. i spent 6 maonths loosing the weight and it taken 5/6 weeks to put it back on. I am so depressed i knew it was a mistake getting on those scales but hey the important thing is i havent smoked for 5weeks it could be worse i could be fat and still smoking:mad:

I need cheering up help people please

Hi Shellfish

You are not alone with the weight. I have put on 11 lbs and my wife 7 lbs.:(

Feel a bit fat and podgy :o but one can deal with the weight once have the nicotine habit has been beaten.

Any doc will tellyou that it is better to be a few pounds overweight than to smoke 20 cigs a day. No comparison.

Keep the good work up mate. :) We are all with you.

zip929 thanks

yes i agree logically its better to be a fewpounds heavier than smoke, its just all the effort to loose the weight

Hi Shellfish,

I am 6 feet 2 inches and slim build and whilst a smoker, I kid you not, am incapable of putting on weight irrespective of how much I eat. In fact when I joined the gym about 6 months ago I wanted to put on some weight in order to convert it into new muscle and so I increased my calorie intake by 1500 per day and still didn't put on any weight!!! so I gave up trying.

Since quitting smoking however I've consistently put on a couple of kilos every week and am now starting to get a bit worried by the rate of weight increase and my newly big belly.

That said however the longest I have ever been smoke free was 18 months and on that occasion I seem to recall I spent most of the first year putting on weight after which I started to stabilise to a weight which fell somewhere between my pre-quit and quitting stage weight.

As peopel have said on here before, don't stress too much yet about the weight as the quitting smoking in health terms is way more important.

Anyway, keep up the good work fatty and keep those chins up, you should be very proud of your achievement (sorry that was a cheap joke)

Hi Dickyboy

thanks for info made me feel better as you say its better to be a live fat b*stard than a dead smoker.

I am 6ft 7ins and when i started at the gym in Oct 06 i weighed 116kg and by march 07 i managed to get down to 99kg and i fluctuated between 99 and 102kg and i have gone up to 106kg yesterday. i have been so tired lately i have had trouble getting up for the gym so i have missed a one or days a week i normally do 5 days a week 2 on weights and 3 on cross trainer.

Its also annoying because i went from a 44in waist to a 38in so i had to buy new jeans and trousers now i have got to buy some bigger size jeans 40in. i do feel better and i prefer this to still smoking.

Dont worry about it shell, its just our metabolisms going back to normal, our bodies will soon adjust and our weight will even out.

Im having the same problem as everyone else too I think.

I brought my summer wardrobe before quitting and now just a few weeks later nothing fits, Ive even had to buy new work pants now as they finally gave up the ghost and split (I didnt want to accept Id put on that much weight and get new ones).

Even one size up is a little snug now.

Am now in a size 16 so methinks I will be joining you at the gym sometime soon shell before I end up like the marshmellow man from ghostbusters.

Stay strong and dont stress, charlene. :)

Cazzie,

Yes - as a matter of fact only yesterday I was relating to a friend that the size of my belly, which until the day I quit smoking was non existant is actually now completely out of proportion with the extra weight I've put on and I was putting this down to bloating.

By that I mean that I've put on just over a stone in weight which being tall and slim I can easily hide, and yet in such a short time I've adopted a really noticeable fat belly. There has to be some explanation for this - I can't have put a stone on of which two thirds of a stone is belly - it doesn't work like that.

We're gonna have to get to the bottom of this with a scientific explanation, failing which I'm gonna write another strongly worded letter of complaint to the Council - it's probably their fault - most things are!!!

Hi Dickyboy Yeah i know what you mean i have the same problem, but i am still suffering with wind terribly its nearly 4 weeks now, i agree its got to be the councils fault, everything else is their fault so well blame them
