after kidney transplants

I am 8 months post on 8/14 it has been almost too easy and I am so thankful but my numbers have always been low for a living donor. My doctors tell me everybody is different and no to get caught up in my numbers. I feel great so I suppose if my team is not concerned I should not be either. They have done 2 biopsies both very normal. My creatine is 1.83 and bun 23.

I think summers maybe dehydration for me. I was at 1.45 just up after a virus. They checked all was good. Just hope as the weather cools so will my creatine.

I'm coming up on three years post transplant from a deceased donor. My baseline creatinine has been over 2 and my BUN typically runs 80-100. I just had my first biopsy, and the good news is there is no rejection. However, there is a significant amount of scarring. When I read the pathologist's report, I was nervous, but my nephrologist isn't and she's had way more school than I have, so I choose to trust her professional opinion. If your team isn't worried, I don't think you need to worry. Enjoy feeling great and the gift you've been given.

Thanks good luck to you as well! I had a friend with two transplants he says he lived at 2.2 for a decade with his first kidney. He is now on his second kidney. First one lasted him 16 years.

I am three plus years out. Everybody’s normal is different. I found that it can take over a year to reach steady numbers. Listen to your team they typically have been at this far longer then 8 months, I would hope. Enjoy your new healthy life the transplant has afforded you. Good luck.

My doctor urged me early on not to compare myself or my numbers to anyone else. It was very hard for me to do but it helped once I stopped doing it. Put your total trust and faith in your transplant nephrologist unless or until you have reason not to and follow their instructions. I am 4 years out and even with some serious set backs my numbers are stable and I am feeling great with my living donor organ. Good luck to you!

I’m 6 weeks post surgery from a living donor, Last week my creatine was 1.22 and they said well see what next week’s numbers are but you might need a biopsy. This weeks number was 1.17, Don’t know what they decided because no one called me about my lab results!! I saw it on the MyChart. I do drink 3 litters a day, hopefully it’s the heat

I have been told hot weather is very hard especially if you like the outdoors. The sun is no longer our friend.

Those are all excellent responses. One suggestion though (and you may be already doing it) regarding the BUN. Reducing the protein and any processed food load on the kidney and staying well hydrated can help too. Of course high numbers could also be due to medications. I saw this wiki on reducing BUN and thought will share:
