I am 67 year old male on PD for the last three and half years. Of late for the last two weeks, I find I invlountarily get jerks in left side of upper body. The jerks are like hiccups. Over a day, I get around 15 to 20 jerks. I am wondering whether it is some neurological issue and is being caused by electrolyte imbalance or calcium , phosphorous abnormal levels. Initially it was too much jerks like 5 times in 30 minutes. Now it is reduced. I will be discussing with nephrologist next week when I meet him. Before that I would like to know whether any one else have experienced such a thing. Thanks in advance for your response

My husband is on HD and sometimes has these tremors you are describing. I would be interested to hear what your nephrologist says about these.
I'm on PD, been on it just a month though, but haven't experienced anything like that. Thanks for posting, and please do let us know what you find out so the rest of us can watch out for this.
I've had similar experiences. Just after my parathyroidectomy and again 8 years later when my calcium levels dropped down to 5-6. I'm certain many causes exist, like elevated or low potassium (both very dangerous) so please consult a physician asap. Blessings
I have had jerks and tingling in arms and hands for probably a year. I jerked and dropped a regular coffee mug, and switched to one with a cap and small opening to stop the spills. My nephrologist put me on 100 mg of gabapentin once a day and it helps somewhat. Tingles start and stop, and I often forget about them when distracted by activities and projects. I used to take supplemental B Complex esp. B12, but my dietician said it was way too high, so I dropped it.
Thanks for your reply. Mine also very much reduced and I hardly get mild jerks of 4 to 5 in a day. It does not bother me now. So I did not take up with my nephrologist
I'm glad your jerkiness is better. What changed?
