Help my Momma

Hey all. I am new here and have a few questions I would love to get your input on.

My mom recently had her 3rd stroke on may 1st. She has stage 4 kidney disease and had a fistula placed a while back for future dialysis. While in the hospital waiting transport to get to rehab, her creatinine levels and bun were super abnormal and so they started her on dialysis.

The second day that she received dialysis she suffered severe arm pain. So much so they had to cut dialysis short. While in rehab for her left arm paralysis from her stroke, she was still receiving dialysis 3 times a week. This is where it gets crazy...so bare with me.

Last Friday (May 20th) my mom face times us and she is talking very slowly and with slurred speech. She seemed very drugged. She was currently taking baclofen for rehab I presume as it's supposed to help with muscle pain I believe. We contacted the nurses desk and they took her for a CT to make sure she wasn't having another stroke. Nothing changed and she was fine after 8 hours or so.

Moving forward, she was fine for a few days, had Dialysis the following Tuesday. Right before her dialysis she began to have horrible muscle spasms all over. She suffered through dialysis but was left to suffer in her room at rehab for 12 plus hours with horrible spasms that left her crying out for help. The only thing that would calm her was when they finally gave her valium. They then transported her to the hospital where she is currently inpatient.

Her muscle spasms had for the most part calmed down and she seemed to be doing well, the doctor believed her slurred speech and spasms was from toxicity from the Baclofen so they backed off of it some.....and come to find out WEEKS later, there was a blood clot that had formed on her fistula and so she just had a fistulagram done two days ago. They were going to insert a central line but instead removed the clot and were going to continue using the fistula instead.

Here's where my latest concerns come in. After her surgery she was great. She ate, slept, was great. The next day she sat up in her chair and began having weakness. The unit called a stroke code on her however they decided she was "fine". She then began crying out in pain and having horrible spasms. These are still on going. Shes completely out of it...crying out for her momma..restless...her eyes keep glazing over. They tried to do dialysis yesterday during all of this...but found that her fistula was messed up again...therefore they needed to place a central line in asap. However with her being so out of it, so restless, it took them several hours to be able to do it. Now we wait for dialysis....as she spasms still and we wait for the valium to kick in again.

The doctors seem to think it's a build up of toxins and baclofen in her since dialysis hasn't been done yet since surgery. Just praying she can get dialysis early this morning and get relief. I'm just at a loss why the spasms, why the mental incoherence, what to do.....my mom has diabetes as well and it's just been a very very hard thing to witness. Just looking for any input or encouraging words....ty all.

I dont know anything about all these symptoms, but I'm sending prayers and good wishes that your mom recovers soon. Its amazingly difficult to watch a loved one suffer so greatly and be helpless to provide aid. Please keep us informed. ❤🙏
