I am only 8st also with osteoporosis, I have been reading lee hull book basic so I need 56 grams of protein daily, how do I work that out when there is protein in everything, I think some of lee hulls book is a bit complicated for me, any ideas anyone.
daily protein : I am only 8st also with... - Kidney Disease
daily protein

Yes, get an app that allows you to track your food. That will give you the nutritional info you need.
thanks, I will just start looking at labels first, surprising just had 3 slices of bread that's 16grams. in lee hulls book he says to increase protein for the over 70s,I have read everywhere to reduce protein.
What app do you use to track food?
My Fitness Pal. It's pretty good.
thanks, but I will just eat healthily for now they haven't told me to reduce anything yet, I have a gp appointment soon and I will ask to be referred to a nephrologist, because I am only 8st and the prognosis for thin people is worse than it is for a heavier person, I am now getting irregular heart beats and shuddering sensations it must be proteinuria that's doing it.
It isn't easy. You do need any definitive guidance your GP and renal consultant can offer.
Have they referred you to a dietician? - that could be helpful.
There's a fine line, but proteinuria sees loss, typically, of blood albumin.. that suggests a need for higher protein intake.
Protein: we need all 8 essential amino acids.
Grain + beans achieves all 8
Meat/fish/dairy always has all 8
Some vegetable/grains have all 8:
Soy products (such as tofu and tempeh), quinoa, amaranth, hemp seeds..
What works for you depends on the particulars of your kidney disease/dysfunction.
My go to for increasing protein in easy to absorb way (no digesting involved), was hydrolysed beef collagen powder from igennus (just a trustworthy uk brand - they have nutritionists good for general advice, but not specific medical advice)
The powder has no taste - can add a spoonful to soup or coffee, adding 20g of protein with healthy balance of amino acids.
Typical dietary issues that vary for each individual kidney patient:
Phosphates
Potassium
..but much more, and finding what works for yourself isn't easy; each single meal/recipe/strategy that can be helpfully repeated is a win.
Hi, Radars. Don't forget that the whole basis of the Lee Hull program (I read both his books) is that it MUST BE PLANT BASED PROTEIN. I eat plenty of Plant Based Beyond Burgers and Orgain Plant Based protein powder in smoothies. Both products are available at Costco and are often in the coupon book. They are also available at Sam's Club. Very easy to get your 56 grams of PLANT BASED PROTEIN this way.
I suggest reading Hull's second book -- Stopping Kidney Disease Basics -- it's his first book without the hundreds of pages of scientific studies. Good luck.
thanks, I am in the uk, I use alpro unsweetened soya milk and yogurt because I also have osteoporosis I have had 2 zoledronic acid infusions up to now, I also eat wholegrain bread and porridge oats which is wholegrain, what's good for my proteinuria is not good for osteoporosis, it's hard work. I look as though I am wasting away with leaking protein.
