I am 14st 7lbs and have stage 3a CKD. I was working out how much protein I should have daily and I believe it is 1.6 oz. Seems so little but if that’s what I need to do, we’ll so be it. Is that the right amount? Ignore this question, I have just read previous posts….thank goodness for this group as I didn’t appreciate for one minute how little protein we should eat. Well another diet change coming up. At least I am having a wee laugh x

amount of protein allowed daily?
My CKD diet allows 65 grams of protein per day. We might have different requirements depending on our medical tests and other factors
My dietician recommend for me 55-70g of protein per day and no more than 2000 mg per sodium.
A diagnosis of CKD 3A usually doesn't require any dietary restrictions if your lab reports on that are okay. So please take a quick look at your labs and ask your doctor what he recommends if you see anything out of range. Don't do this on your own. We are all very different with different needs.
Thank you so much Darlenia, I have a nursing/health visiting background so lucky I can read blood result ok. I’m in email contact with my excellent GP. So we will work it out together. I just want to work hard at health changes while I am at 3a, as I’d like to stay there for as long as possible. Time will tell, wishing you well x
Well, request consult with Renal Dietitian and they will give you more accurate assessment based on your lab results.I was first diagnosed with 3A, then my egfr rose to 85 from 55, so now stage 2. I ate 0.8grams/kilogram for my weight (was 163 lbs or 74.09Kg ) last April 2022; now eating 45-50 grams protein based on new weight 127lbs/57.72kg. This is recommended according to numbers from DaVita, NKF and a few others. Eating at least the minimum amount protein is important to maintain muscle mass and deter muscle wasting, which happened to me for very short period.
Good luck and keep us posted. It's definitely been a journey for us all.
There are very knowledgeable, caring people on this forum, whom I've gained so much from. 🙂
The knowledge and support they've provided has been tremendous.
Thank you Dana. Can I ask how long you were at stage 3a before you went to 2? That is wonderful to hear as I didn’t think it could happen. You are obviously working hard with your health, well done. Yes it is a great forum. Although I was a nurse Kidneys were not my speciality so I need all the help and advice I can get. X
In Jan. 2022, my pcp told me I had UTI. Had been noticing elevated bp and fluttering in chest, which I thought was heartburn/reflux related. Labs that month eGFR 55, so determined CKD Stage 3A. As I understand, this is only stage if is repeated X3. Next lab in May, 2022 eGFR 85 with dietary changes, 2.5 liters water daily, bp medication; EGFR up and down since. Most recent 81, but read that cystatin C lab more accurate for early stages ckd? Haven't requested this lab but seeing Nephrologist routinely. Lost 30+ lbs since last May, added walking to daytime routine, but has definitely been an overall adjustment to my life. I'm grateful though that health has improved. I hope you have better days 🙏🙂
You,ve done amazing Dana. I have totally changed my diet and just home from walking about an hour. I have been monitoring my BP and sent readings to GP today but it’s very steady and normal and I don’t have diabetes either, so no risk factors that I can see. I just pray my scan is ok. It does give us a reality check but onwards and upwards, keep well xx
