I have a eGFR of 10 and still avoiding dialysis. I am 75 and the transplant team will not consider a deceased kidney. So I am searching for a live donor. I have 2 people I know who are being evaluated. I am awaiting approval of my story on National Kidney Registry. I also am waiting for my story and request for a live kidney to be disseminated to all the residents and employees at the senior community I live in. I have a heart murmur and have to take a nuclear stress test. I also have to have an abdominal MRI using Dotarem dye, which is considered safe for an MRI.

I mainly worry that, after all this, I will be considered as too risky for the surgery. Yet I do not want to wait until all my testing is completed and the transplant team decides to proceed until I find other ways to find a donor. Has anyone created a blog on social media to help find a live kidney? If so, did you encounter attempts to hack or scam? How did you handle these?

Lee, will the transplant team allow even the live donor? I would ask before you go down a path that won't end nice. Also, if they do not, look for some other transplant site near but not in your region.

If you are Jewish an organization that helps find live donors for people in your situation is called renewal.org. They helped an acquaintance in your situation get a kidney. Unfortunately I'm not Jewish so they won't help me.
